From Our President

Trustees and staff,

As summer is winding down, we are winding up and getting excited because September is a huge month for us! We’ve been gearing up for Mohawk Valley Gives all year and the big day is almost upon us. We’re pleased to say that nearly 270 nonprofit organizations are participating this year. They have been guided by our team through one-on-one training sessions to ensure each organization has a solid campaign that is set up for success. Furthermore, we are also awarding more than $50,000 in prizes – a great increase from last year! We hope that you will join us on Wednesday, September 20, at 11:30 a.m. for a Mohawk Valley Gives Luncheon at our offices. Please click here to RSVP.

Another gathering to make note of - on Thursday, September 7, at 2:00 p.m., we’re holding an important meeting for all CF board members at our offices to continue the discussion surrounding a confidential PRI proposal from Utica University. President Todd Pfannestiel will be joining us along with members of UU’s finance team to help inform our consideration of this project. I hope you can join us for this discussion. If you will be unable to attend, please reach out to Kayla, kellis@foundationhoc.org.

As many of you already know, our Executive Vice President John Swann has announced his retirement. We are grateful for his 8 years of dedicated service and wish him the very best!

And finally, there are many items of note to share. Please enjoy important news and updates in this issue and we look forward to seeing at the Board meeting on September 28th.

Wishing you all the best,

Alicia

On August 9, we hosted our second round of Mohawk Valley Gives Coffee Break Sessions to assist nonprofits with account verification, profile completion, marketing strategies, and answer frequently asked questions. Over 20 representatives from registered nonprofits were in attendance. Our next Coffee Break Session will be on Wednesday, September 6.

Community Foundation staff attended the August 14 Levitt AMP Utica Music Series concert at Kopernik Park! Board Chair Father Joe Salerno accompanied staff and spoke a few words of wisdom to the crowd alongside Kayla Ellis who presented how to get involved in Mohawk Valley Gives. We had a blast listening to the incredible live music, dancing, and mingling with community members!

Our systems will be under construction! We recently signed a contract with Foundant Technologies, an integrated software solution designed specifically for community foundations. We are ready to begin the journey of our software transition that will improve the efficiency of our work!
