From Our President

Trustees and staff,

We had nothing short of a busy week as July came to a close. I want to give a special thank-you to those who joined us for our Rosamond G. Childs Community Philanthropy Award celebration event last week honoring Ron and Sheila Cuccaro. It was a special evening with so many friends and partners gathering to honor two remarkable and tireless community benefactors.

This past week we also held a Finance and Investment lunch for Trustees. If you were unable to attend and would like to view the recording, please click here.

On Thursday, August 10, at 3:00 p.m., we’re holding an important meeting for all CF board members here at our offices to review a confidential PRI proposal from Utica University. Your input in this decision is much needed, and I hope you can join this important discussion. If you will be unable to attend, please reach out to Kayla, kellis@foundationhoc.org.

Lastly, we and our partners are getting amped up for our Mohawk Valley Gives event less than two months away! With nonprofit registration coming to a close, we will soon share a list of all participating organizations. Later in August we will be conducting sponsor visits, placing lawn signs around town, and continuing to creatively spread the word about this great event. Make sure you save the date for Wednesday, September 20, to join us for a fun-filled day of giving!

The team has put together some important news and updates in this issue, and I invite you to explore them below.

All the best,

Alicia

Community Impact

The Hero Fund America Fund awarded $20,000 to 16 nonprofits to help meet the education, training, lifesaving equipment and mental health needs of fire, emergency medical services and law enforcement agencies through the First Responder Grant Round. Since inception, the fund has awarded over $65,000 to nonprofits across the United States. To learn more about the fund, visit foundationhoc.org/hero.

On July 12, we hosted our first two Mohawk Valley Gives Coffee Break Sessions to assist nonprofits with account verification, profile completion, marketing strategies, and answer frequently asked questions. Eighteen representatives from registered nonprofits were in attendance. Our next Coffee Break Session will be on Wednesday, August 9.

We were featured in the Daily Sentinel's July 30 issue of The Weekender! This column focused on the various ways in which donors can engage in charitable giving. We want to ensure that our community members are informed on the many ways to give, whether it's through a fund, a charitable gift annuity, through stocks and securities, and/or other ways. A Utica couple whose generosity has touched countless lives over the last two decades has received our highest award for community philanthropy, the Rosamond G. Childs award. Ron and Sheila Cuccaro of Utica were honored at the Community Foundation’s July 26 Celebration of Philanthropy event at the Delta Hotel, presented with support from Rising Phoenix Holdings Corporation, and Stephen and Gina Surace.
