First Housing Symposium for Cambria & Somerset Counties held on November 18th
Navigating the housing resources in Cambria and Somerset counties is an in-depth and often complex process. Since there is a such a wide variety of programs, 1889 Jefferson Center for Population Health project (1889 JCPH) manager Leanna Bird and United Way of the Laurel Highlands community impact manager Paula Gojmerac, along with a robust planning committee, came together and organized the first-ever Housing Symposium for Cambria and Somerset Counties on November 18, 2021.

FWA Gym hosts community health fair
Oscar Cashaw and Karen Carter Brandon, in collaboration with Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center Clinical Support Manager Barb Duryea and 1889 JCPH, hosted a community health fair at FWA Gym November 6. 1889 JCPH had its own table with resources and a giveaway. Covid vaccinations were available, along with blood pressure checks, and Diabetes information. The event was a great success with nearly 50 people attending the two-hour event.
Westmont Hilltop hosts COVID-19 vaccine clinic for children ages 5 through 11
At the beginning of the month, the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine was approved for children ages 5 through 11. Shortly after that, the Westmont Hilltop School District announced its plans to host a vaccine clinic with Highlands Health, in collaboration with the Cambria-Somerset Covid Task Force, on Monday, November 8. The clinic was open to Westmont and Ferndale school district families and staff. The clinic was for children ages 5 through 11.
Department of Health holds COVID-19 testing site in Somerset County
The Pennsylvania Department of Health (PA DOH) hosted a free, outdoor drive-up COVID-19 testing site in Somerset County at the end of October. It was open to anyone who felt they needed a test. This testing site was organized in collaboration with the Cambria-Somerset COVID-19 Task Force and the Somerset County Department of Emergency Services.

Cambria-Somerset Covid Task Force reaches out to Cambria and Somerset school districts
The Cambria-Covid Task Force has been reaching out to school districts in Cambria and Somerset counties to discuss COVID-19 vaccines for children ages 5 through 11. The task force provided vaccine information and offered to help facilitate clinics.

Nathan's Divide, Ebensburg
Center for Population Health to take part in persons with disabilities focus group
Three staff members of 1889 JCPH will attend virtual focus group sessions November 22, 23, and 29 to discuss how the outdoors can be made more accessible to people with disabilities. The Health Promotion Council, Lakeshore Foundation, and Conemaugh Health System, in conjunction with the National Park Service and the Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance Program are hosting the event.
