Let's Talk Home Health

The Saline County Health Department’s Home Health provides professional home health care services to all persons of all ages. The care is provided seven days per week, with a Registered Nurse on call 24 hours a day for those needing assistance. The Saline County Home Health has been providing home health services since 1966, being the longest-standing agency in Saline County. It was the only agency in Saline County until the 1990s. The services provided include:

·        Skilled Nursing Care

·        Physical, Occupational, and Speech Therapy

·        Home Health Aide/ Home Maker

·        Medical Social Work

Saline County Home Health is a Medicare-certified and Kansas State Licensed Agency. They provide service to anyone regardless of home condition and home location (as long as it’s in Saline County). They are able to care for underinsured or patients who have no insurance at all.

Saline County Home Health stands apart from other agencies in the area because they believe in the primary nursing model. This means that a single nurse is identified as the point of contact and supervises all other disciplines during the episode of care. We believe this creates a better bond and trusting relationship between the patient and their caregiver. Patient care is said to be elevated by having that single nurse overseeing the delivery of care and it empowers the nurse to deploy their best bedside care.

Meagan Rico-Padron recently joined the Saline County Health Department in May as a Home Health Nurse Case Manager. Meagan visits patients in their homes and provides care as outlined by the patient's Primary Doctor while coordinating efforts between the patient's Medical Interdisciplinary team.

“I enjoy being able to use my skills and expertise to help community members who need it the most, while also balancing the family time I need with my six-year-old twin sons,” Meagan said. “It is so rewarding to give back to the community that I was born and raised in.”

When asked why she wanted to come work for the Health Department her response was, "I wanted to come to work for the Health Department because it is family-oriented and places value on ensuring that employees have adequate personal time. This helps her stay physically, spiritually, and mentally prepared to take care of patients."

“Meagan has been a positive addition to our home health team. She brings a wealth of knowledge and motivation to grow and provide care to as many people in our community as possible.” Christi Ponton, Home Health Administrator.

She is most proud of being able to get up every day and feel excited for the workday ahead of her. This speaks to not only the fulfilling nature of the work being done but also the kindness and leadership of the coworkers she spends time with every day.

“I am passionate about being an advocate for all kinds of vulnerable individuals. This quality was instilled in me by the elders in my family and by watching my mother working in the healthcare system as an RN herself. I hope to one day take this advocacy and use it to enhance and empower the general health of our city and county.”

Thank you for all you do, Meagan!

Salina Family Healthcare Center and the Saline County Health Department are recruiting health care and equity organizations around the county to join a Community Health Action Team for Equity that will focus on creating and supporting health equity initiatives in the community to better the health of the county's residents.

By bringing all of our valued partners together, we believe we have the opportunity to make a large collective impact. No single organization can tackle all the issues impacting people's health, and to achieve community level outcomes we need the whole community involved. The team will also serve as an informal mutual aid network, where we can share resources, collaborate, and ask for help on current projects.

"In addition to recruiting different organizations, we also plan to recruit interested community members to the team, as they are the most impacted by our decisions and can help guide resources to what community members actually need," explained Jason Tiller, Saline County Health Officer.

The team met for the first time on March 22, 2023.
