#NeighborsHelpingNeighbors
Over the past several weeks, there has been an outpouring of altruism and support from
#NeighborsHelpingNeighbors
in the Beach Cities. Now more than ever is the time for us to come together and look out and care for one another, especially our vulnerable populations – older adults and those with underlying health conditions.
Yesterday, Governor Gavin Newsom urged Californians to check in on vulnerable neighbors with a call, text or physically-distanced door knock. One way to help our community is to drop off
Kindness Cards
to neighbors letting them know you’re here to help!
Here’s how:
- Print the Kindness Card at home: DOWNLOAD HERE
- Cut the Kindness Cards (each sheet of paper has two cards)
- Fill in your contact information and check the items you’re able to do
- Drop the Kindness Card off to your neighbors or tape it to their front door
- If your neighbor answers the door, remember to practice social distancing and remain 6 ft. away
1.
Ring the doorbell or knock on the door
2 .
Place items on the doorstep
3
. Step six feet away from the door
4.
Wait for the neighbor to open the door
5.
Wave, say hello and ask them how they’re doing!
6.
If they express needing additional help, you may suggest they call the BCHD Assistance, Information & Referral line at 310-374-3426, ext. 256 (7 days a week, 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m.)
7.
After you leave, wash your hands or use a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol

#BeachCitiesCares
Thank you to our BCHD volunteers and staff for supporting our most vulnerable community members during the
#SaferAtHomeBeachCities
order. Here's a behind the scenes look at our process:
First, our Care Managers receive a call from the Assistance, Information & Referral line (310-374-3426, ext. 256),
Then they coordinate with Center for Health & Fitness and AdventurePlex staff to run errands. Our volunteers and employees follow protocols to ensure the errands are completed safety and swiftly
The groceries are delivered to the resident’s doorstep!
Please contact us if you or someone you know in the Beach Cities needs assistance with errands, health-related information or referrals.
Our Assistance, Information & Referral line is available 7 days a week, 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.

Comments from the Community:

Be Aware of COVID-19 Scams
The United States Department of Justice is reporting that criminals are attempting to exploit COVID-19 worldwide through a variety of scams:
- Individuals and businesses selling fake cures for COVID-19 online and engaging in other forms of fraud
- Phishing emails from entities posing as the World Health Organization or the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
- Malicious websites and apps that appear to share virus-related information to gain and lock access to your devices until payment is received
- Seeking donations fraudulently for illegitimate or non-existent charitable organizations
Here's what you can do to protect yourself from scams:
- Hang up on robocalls. Don’t press any numbers. Scammers are using illegal robocalls to pitch everything from scam treatments to work-at-home schemes
- Ignore online offers for vaccinations and home test kits. Scammers are trying to get you to buy products that aren’t proven to treat or prevent COVID-19 — online or in stores
- Fact-check information
- Know who you’re buying from
- Don’t respond to texts and emails about checks from the government
- Don’t click on links from sources you don’t know. They could download viruses onto your computer or device
- Watch for emails claiming to be from the CDC or experts saying they have information about the virus
- Do your homework when it comes to donations, whether through charities or crowdfunding sites. Don’t let anyone rush you into making a donation. If someone wants donations in cash, by gift card, or by wiring money, don’t do it
