NFSB has stepped up our responsiveness for the expanding food insecurity needs in the township during this time of crisis.
From March thru May, our Food Pantry has experienced a 33% increase in total participating households. This represents a total of over 500 participating patrons; the largest increase is among senior citizens, followed by children.
Since March NFSB has been partnering with Nutley Public School District to make available Grab & Go meals provided by Pomptonian Food Service to Nutley resident students, regardless of free/reduced lunch eligibility. This is made possible through a federal meal program. To date, we have distributed over 23,000 meals. NFSB's support of the school meal program and the additional donation of essential food supplies is bolstering food security for many Nutley families.
NFSB has been working closely with the management of the Nutley Parkside Apartments and Nutley Senior Manor. Since March, we have distributed over 350 bags of groceries, 275 bags of fresh produce, and available toiletries. In addition, local restaurants have thus far provided over 600 warm meals to seniors and township families. NFSB also partners with Essex County Chrill Lunch Program for their home lunch delivery program. We provide produce, fresh bread, perishables, and occasional toiletries to 60 seniors at least once weekly.
A very big thank you to Nutley municipality, businesses, civic and religious organizations, as well as to Individual contributors who support our Food Pantry service.
