Community News from the RRLIP Project

Hello Regina Community Members!

The Regina Region Local Immigration Partnership (RRLIP Project) strengthens and supports the community’s efforts to welcome, settle and integrate newcomers. In the last Newcomer Survey, we learned that many people do not know about programs in the community and/or how to access them.

The goal of these regular emails is to increase awareness of and access to relevant programs, services and events that enhance and support newcomer settlement in Regina.

Please share this information widely. Thank you so much!

FREE CELEBRATION - Families welcome!

The Spring Free From Racism Committee believes that by bringing all cultures together in celebration and fun it is easier to recognize the creativity of our diversity.

In 1995, the first Spring Free From Racism Committee was formed to address the racial issues of our First Nations people, new immigrants and visible minorities. Now the committee celebrates the importance of diversity and culture.

FREE EVENT AT THE SCIENCE CENTRE: BEHIND RACISM EXHIBIT AND COMMUNITY CONVERSATION ABOUT RACISM

March 22/2023

This exhibition explores the mental processes

that contribute to racism and discrimination.

It shows how the processes that can help us

think and act quickly can lead to dangerous

biases against people who are different

from us. This show challenges visitors to

acknowledge the role these processes

play in their own lives while exploring some

of Canada’s history and its connection to

present-day racism and inequities.

The Exhibit is in Regina until April 2, and can be seen during Science Centre regular hours for the admission price.

To see more cultural events happening in the city and province, go to the MCoS events page https://mcos.ca/events/ or sign up for their newsletter on this page

INCOME TAX FILING INFORMATION - FROM CANADA REVENUE AGENCY

To receive benefits and credits, you need to file an income tax and benefit return – even if you have no income to report for 2022 or if your income is tax exempt.

Getting started:

Steps to get ready for filing – Not sure where to start? Visit our Get ready to do your taxes page for the latest tax information. We have eight steps that will help you prepare to file.

Register for My Account – Over 435,000 Saskatchewan residents are already registered for My Account. My Account is our online portal for individuals where you can find your tax information and access many of the slips you need to file your income tax and benefit return.

You can also:

  • change your personal information, such as your address, phone number, and marital status
  • register for direct deposit
  • make a payment
  • track the status of your return
  • apply for child benefits
  • receive mail and email notifications
  • view uncashed cheques
  • and so much more!

You will also be able to access digital services such as Auto-fill my return and Express NOA in certified tax-filing software.

Learn about your taxes – The CRA has launched a free online learning tool to help you do your taxes on your own. This tool provides you with lessons that help you understand what taxes are, why we pay them, how to understand your paycheques, pay stubs, and income tax slips, and finally, how to do your taxes for the first time.

Need help doing your taxes? – If you have a modest income, a simple tax situation, and require assistance, a Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP) volunteer may be able to do your taxes for free. The CVITP helped over 26,500 Saskatchewan residents complete and file tax returns last year.

To find a clinic, please visit our Free tax clinics page.

Find REGINA FREE TAX CLINICS - in various languages, including Vietnamese, Mandarin, Hindi, Nepali, French and English (depending on the location).

You will have to enter your province and city.
