Community News from the RRLIP Project

Hello Regina Community Members!

The Regina Region Local Immigration Partnership (RRLIP Project) strengthens and supports the community’s efforts to welcome, settle and integrate newcomers. In the last Newcomer Survey, we learned that many people do not know about programs in the community and/or how to access them.

The goal of these regular emails is to increase awareness of and access to relevant programs, services and events that enhance and support newcomer settlement in Regina.

.

Please share this information widely. Thank you so much!

EHRLO BASKETBALL LEAGUE - Free Opportunity for Children/Teens 6 to 16

Ehrlo Sport Venture Program (Sport Venture) believes that everyone should have the right to play, so works to provide youth and families with control of, and access to, a variety of recreational programs.

Sport Venture thinks everyone should be able to decide if, when, and how they want to participate in sports. You shouldn’t have to worry about the cost of league fees or expensive equipment.

They want to make it easy for as many families as possible to participate in their programs, so offer free sports leagues (hockey, basketball, soccer, baseball, and football) and have a library where you can borrow sports equipment, free of charge.

All of our programs are staffed by volunteers and staff ambassadors from the Regina community.

The season runs from April 17 until May 27, on Mondays, Wednesdays and

Thursdays

SURVEY ON THE FUTURE OF CANADA'S IMMIGRATION SYSTEM

The Government of Canada has launched an initiative called "An Immigration System for Canada’s Future".

The website says: "To support Canada’s economy and help strengthen our communities, it’s essential to have immigration policies and programs that are modern, responsive to change, and aligned with Canada’s social, economic and cultural needs."

Until the end of April 2023, the government will be talking to people across the country to collaborate on a vision of the future of Canada’s immigration system.

As part of this, a public survey has been launched, to gather views from anyone with an interest in immigration. THIS IS YOUR CHANCE TO TELL THE GOVERNMENT YOUR IDEAS, THOUGHTS, AND CONCERNS ABOUT THE IMMIGRATION PROGRAM!

It is anonymous (no one will know who you are), it must be completed all at once (about 15 minutes) and it WILL NOT AFFECT your immigration status in any way.

Please think about these questions ahead of time, and share your ideas about:

  • How can immigration support Canada’s economic and social goals for the future?
  • What are the strengths of our immigration system today?
  • What changes can we make to help us achieve long-term success, and what will be the milestones along the way?
  • How can we best meet the needs of newcomers to Canada?

There is a deadline for participation. Please complete the survey by April 27, 2023
