Community News from the RRLIP Project

Hello Regina Community Members!

The Regina Region Local Immigration Partnership (RRLIP Project) strengthens and supports the community’s efforts to welcome, settle and integrate newcomers. In the last Newcomer Survey, we learned that many people do not know about programs in the community and/or how to access them.

The goal of these regular emails is to increase awareness of and access to relevant programs, services and events that enhance and support newcomer settlement in Regina.

Please share this information widely. Thank you so much!

REFUGEE CLIENTS NEED YOUR HELP!

Do you have a rental house or suite?

Many refugees are coming to Regina, supported by Regina Open Door Society staff, and funded for their first year in Canada by the Government of Canada. These refugees have often been waiting for years in refugee camps, and have come from war-torn countries or other difficult situations. They need places to live!

Settlement workers support refugees as they learn about life in Canada and living in Canadian houses, go to English classes, get children into school and find employment. But the first step is finding a safe place to live, close to schools, shopping and transportation.

If you have a space (all sizes are needed) that you could rent to refugees, please contact the Housing Registry at RODS - https://rods.sk.ca/contact/housing/

or contact Murshed at housing@rods.sk.ca 306-352-3500

Families welcome

Rites of Passage is a new play centering around the experiences of a Nigerian immigrant in Canada and a settler Canadian. Based on the playwrights’ experiences of immigrating to Canada after waiting for a decision for two years and five months, the play takes the audience through the psychological and emotional trauma faced by many immigrants before immigrating to, and while living in, Canada. This production is appropriate for all ages, but is recommended for ages 16 and up.

This production is grateful for the support of Canada Council for the Arts.

Doors will open 30 mins before the showtime.

We will hold the doors for the 2:00pm and 7:30pm buses at the Riddell Centre to accommodate any audience members using public transport.

RISER is supported by the Government of CanadaRBC Foundation, and a community of Senior Partners. RISER Regina is presented by On Cue Performance Hub & Why Not Theatre.

SaskCulture's Culture Days Hub Sponsorship aims to support communities and/or cultural groups in bringing together two or more community cultural partners to hold cultural activities during Culture Days.

Sponsorships of up to $5,000 will be determined by community size, the strength of community partnerships, and the quality and extent of programs or activities offered. Culture Days Hubs are encouraged to work with partners to host cultural activities and distribute sponsorship funds accordingly.

This year, applications with activities and programming that advance Truth and Reconciliation as part of September 30, the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, will be prioritized.
