JANUARY 18, 2026

For many older adults and individuals with disabilities, getting to medical appointments can feel overwhelming. Navigating transportation, unfamiliar buildings, and long waits alone, can turn a routine visit into a stressful experience.

To meet this need, JFS of Greenwich launched the Compassionate Companions Program in 2024 -- pairing clients with trained volunteers who accompany them to and from non-emergency medical appointments. JFS provides both the volunteer and the transportation, ensuring a safe, calm, and supportive experience every step of the way.

More than a ride, Compassionate Companions offers emotional reassurance and human presence, helping clients feel grounded, connected, and cared for.

We are grateful to community members like Beth and Bill Finger, whose generous support helps sustain this essential program.

As demand grows, so does the need for volunteers and program support. We warmly welcome your involvement -- whether through volunteering or contributing to its continued growth. Click here to learn more.

On Mitzvah Day, Temple Sholom families came together in an incredible act of kindness and community spirit. As part of their annual tradition, volunteers packed over 100 jars of hearty chili. These jars will be distributed to JFS clients in our Older Adult Services program, bringing nourishment and comfort during the cold winter months.

This was a special day of joy, teamwork, and the shared value of tikkun olam -- repairing the world. Each jar was a reminder that our community cares deeply for its most vulnerable members.

Thank you to Temple Sholom and all the families who made this possible! Your generosity helps JFS continue its mission of supporting older adults with dignity and compassion.

Followed by light bagel and schmear lunch.

GNACC Annual Meeting & Board Elections

JFS attended the Greater Norwich Area Chamber of Commerce (GNACC) Annual Meeting and Elections of Officers and Board Members, held at the Hotel Callista.

As part of our commitment to staying engaged with the broader Norwich community, this event gave us the opportunity to connect with partners and leaders who help strengthen the network of support available to the individuals and families we serve.

The event brought together community leaders, local organizations, and business partners to reflect on the past year’s achievements and look ahead to new initiatives.

Did you know JFS offers group programs for emotional support?
