Dear Watkinson Parents, Alumni and Alumni Parents,

With heavy hearts we share the news of the passing of longtime Watkinson employee and fellow current and alumni parent, Burton Emmanuel. Burton served at Watkinson's Accounts Payable/Purchasing Manager from 2005 - 2017, and later served as the residential housing director for The Academy at Watkinson. A funeral service celebrating Burton's life will be live streamed this morning at 11am . Burton's obituary is below.

Burton Clarence Emmanuel was born June 5, 1959, in Paramin, Trinidad to Modestine (nee Gladys) and Stephen Emmanuel. He peacefully transitioned from earthly labor to heavenly reward on May 7, 2020. Burton was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers: Earl, Rupert and Selwyn.

Burton attended Paramin Roman Catholic School. In 1967, the family moved to St. Ann’s Port-of Spain where he continued his education at St. Ann’s Roman Catholic School. Burton went on to high school at St. Mary’s College in Port of Spain. Upon graduating from high school, he secured employment with Trinidad and Tobago Insurance Limited (TATIL) where he obtained several insurance certifications. Burton was also a member of the Paramin Development Committee (PDC).

In 1990, Burton migrated to the United States to begin his new journey in life. He was the beloved father of Toni, Gabrielle, Justin-Michael, and Celeste with his former wife, Allyson. He was also a father figure to Tianna Edwards and Yilmaz Becikoglu.

As part of his new journey in life, Burton attended Barney’s Business School at the University of Hartford in Connecticut, attaining a degree in Accounting; and was later employed as Accounts Payable/Purchasing Manager at Watkinson School. He also served as the Postgraduate Academy Residential Housing Director where he mentored and impacted the lives of many.

Burton made changing lives and being the best supporter a genuine way to live his life. He was a man of many skills, wisdom, and love. Burton had a very fond love for all kinds of music, books, writing and storytelling that he passed on to his children and often shared with others. He was a character that always brought smiles and laughter into the room with his jokes and constant teasing. Burton
was incredible at setting the example of what a real man should be. He lived the last few years of his life happily married to Diane Thomas; along with his
stepdaughters Andrea and Danica. He lived his life constantly showing the love he had for his beautiful wife and incredible children, stepchildren, and his newfound love for Christ.

In addition to family mentioned above, Burton leaves to cherish his memories, siblings: Peter (Joan), Christine (Ruthvin), Ephraim (Sheila), Donna, Ellis (Molly), and; Anslem (Beverly); and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and dear friends.

Burton’s memory and spirit will forever live on in his wife, children, stepchildren, family, friends, and the many lives that he touched.
