BC Representative for Children and Youth Expands Mandate to Include Young Adults

As of Sept. 30, 2013, my role (or "mandate") is changing. From that date on, my Office will provide advocacy services for certain young adults with developmental disabilities, autism spectrum disorder and/or fetal alcohol spectrum disorder.

Specifically, British Columbians ages 19-24 who are eligible to receive services from Community Living BC (CLBC) and who have also received a reviewable service within 15 months before they turned 19 will now be able to access the Office advocates for assistance.

Anyone can contact my Office to find out how we can help. For young adults who are eligible and their families, staff will be able to offer support by providing information or advice, or advocating on their behalf regarding access to a prescribed government service or program. If we cannot assist, we will connect people to other organizations or sources of support that may be able to.

For more information on these changes, or to contact an advocate, please visit www.rcybc.ca or call the Rep Line at 1-800-476-3933.

Sincerely,

Mary Ellen-Turpel Lafond
