COMMUNITY SPIRIT THRIVES IN POMONOK

Our settlement house model is alive and well at the Pomonok Community Center, where neighbors of all ages and backgrounds gather to connect, grow, and make a positive impact on the community.

On September 7, our Center hosted a successful Back-to-School Giveaway and Styling event, thanks to the generosity of community residents and local partners. Children of our afterschool program at the Center received essential items like new clothing, shoes, backpacks, books, and school supplies. To make the event even more special, Victoria Lynch (known as Vikki Stylez), a valued member of our community, teamed up with 100 Suits to offer free professional haircuts, braiding, and hairstyles to all of the youth in attendance.

It's heartwarming to see how our community comes together to support one another and ensure that every child has the support and resources they need to succeed.

MEET YOUR NEIGHBOR: STANCY SAJI

With the generosity of our thoughtful supporters, we are able to make a difference in the lives of over 25,000 Queens neighbors each year. Northwell - Long Island Jewish Forest Hills (LIJFH) has been supporting our work as one of our donors. In this special edition of Meet Your Neighbor, hear from Stancy Saji, Program Manager for Government / Community Relations at LIJFH.

"Queens has seen the evolution of my character over a period of time, and still never ceases to amaze or inspire me. In this borough, you can meet people from all around the world and experience different cuisines and cultures without even catching a flight. The stories, hustle, and color that come with Queens is why this borough is such a shining example of inclusivity and diversity, and why I'm proud to call this place home.

I currently work at LIJFH, Northwell's community hospital in Queens. We consistently work to support populations that face healthcare disparities. Through collaborations with community partners like QCH, the hospital offers workshops, health fairs, and free services tailored to everyone in our borough.

When I first learned about QCH, I was so impressed with the mission-driven approach to the work that they do. I knew that in my current role with Northwell, I wanted to establish a deeper relationship with the organization, especially since LIJFH is QCH's local community hospital and so close by!

We are proud to be a partner with QCH and support the work that they do with our time and expertise, as well as financially. They are truly making a difference in the every day lives of people and changing the landscape of our community in a positive and meaningful way."
