For those who have just joined us, welcome to the Fenway Alliance's Community Matters series where we spotlight our member institutions's community benefits!


As a consortium of 21 locally and globally renowned institutions, The Fenway Alliance and its members are committed to benefitting the local community and residents of Boston and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. This newsletter provides an overview of some of those benefits made available to the community by each organization.

Free & Upcoming Events

Did you know? The First Church of Christ, Scientist (also known as The Mother Church) hosts a variety of free events and activities year-round on the Christian Science Plaza. Have you ever wanted to explore the inside of The Mother Church but don't know where to begin? Click here to learn more about taking a free, guided tour of the Church. Don't forget to attend a Christian Science church service, the Sunday School at The Mother Church, or one of their Christian Science lectures. In the summertime, children enjoy playing in the Children’s Fountain at the Plaza, and visitors year-round find serenity and peace at the Plaza’s Reflecting Pool.

How Do You See the World? experience

Explore stories about global progress—how individuals worldwide have overcome challenges and found hope. Reflect on how you see the world while exploring the interactive exhibits:

  • Walk through the iconic MappariumTM globe (ticket required).
  • Look deeper into humanity's advancement and find stories in The Christian Science Monitor about individuals who have made a difference in their communities. 
  • Learn about the woman who founded the Christian Science church and the Monitor—Mary Baker Eddy (1821-1910)—through exploring her lifelong love of the Bible and its ongoing relevance and application to universal questions today.

One World

One World 2024 with The Mary Baker Eddy Library is a kid-focused, family-friendly event that celebrates countries and cultures around the globe each summer. This year's One World program will celebrate Japan, Jamaica, Ireland, and India! This community program includes free admission to the MappariumTM globe in the How Do You See the World? experience. The event will run July 9, July 16, July 23, and July 30 from 10:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.

Pipes on the Plaza

Listen to the glorious sounds of one of the world’s largest pipe organs, featuring celebrated organists. You are welcome to join a tour of The Mother Church after the concert. The next performance is on Tuesday, August 13th and will feature Concert Organist, Amanda Mole.

Concerts

The First Church of Christ, Scientist will offer a free outdoor concert on Friday evening, September 6 as well as chiming concerts every Wednesday and Sunday, and on Thursdays in July and August.

Christian Science Reading Room

Daily events in-person at the Reading Room (with an online option) provide a space for you to come read, listen to, or discuss various resources with others - resources designed to support your spiritual growth and understanding of Christian Science.

Discounts & Accessibility

The How Do You See the World? experience with the MappariumTM globe offers a variety of discounts for admission to the MappariumTM globe, including Card to Culture. Find them in the “Discounted Admission” section of our website. The MappariumTM globe audio and visual presentation also offers hearing amplification devices and transcripts.
