On Tuesday, we will learn the latest developments in Mark's proposed plan and solicit additional community feedback before the zoning application that would allow for the transformation of the Extended Stay America hotel into a multifamily complex returns to City Council's agenda on February 22. Receiving your input prior is essential because this is an important zoning case with the potential to impact the quality of life of surrounding neighbors and the overall safety of the entire community. As confirmed by Lieutenant Brian Payne and our community prosecutor during our meeting on October 18, the Extended Stay America hotel that occupies the site currently has for years been characterized by violent crime, and in April 2022, it was designated a Habitual Criminal Property.
Below are details from the pending zoning-change application for your reference.
- The subject site is approximately 2.881 acres in size with a hotel as the current use. According to a city records the hotel has a total of 136 rooms in 70,828 square feet of floor area.
- The site is currently zoned an MC-4 Multiple Commercial District which does not allow the multifamily use. The applicant proposes the adaptive reuse of the existing hotel building into a multifamily complex.
- The proposed MU-3(A) Mixed Use District would allow for the multifamily use.
I look forward to hearing from you on Tuesday, February 7. In the meantime, don't hesitate to reach out to my office if my team or I can help in any way.
Respectfully,
