Dear TCGIS Community,

The winter weather season is upon us, and we want you to feel prepared for any extreme weather days we may have. Deciding to close our school is never easy; however, our students' safety and well-being is our top priority.

Before deciding to hold a non-instructional day or e-learning day due to extreme winter weather conditions, TCGIS consults credible weather sources and uses an established protocol based on criteria in our E-Learning Plan.

Our Extreme Weather Protocol:

The school will update families as soon as possible once a decision is made. The school will use the email and texts you have provided us to notify you of the decision, please be sure the emails and phone numbers you have provided in Infinite Campus are up to date.

Please note:

  • You will be notified of school closing a minimum of 2 hours before the start of the school day.
  • You will receive the notification of school closing via the phone number and email you have provided on Infinite Campus. Please Opt-In to receive Text Alerts on extreme weather days. You can find these settings in your account under Settings, then Contact Preferences. Just make sure that the Text (SMS) boxes are checked and that's all you need to do.
  • On days when we have extreme weather scenarios, we will ask our students to engage in the E-Learning Plan we have in place. Please be prepared for this scenario and have a plan in place should your student be asked to check in with their coursework virtually. TCGIS is able to provide Hotspots for those needing an internet connection at home. Email info@tcgis.org for assistance with acquiring this device.
  • The Twin Cities German Immersion School is unique in that we have a community that spans across the entire Twin Cities. Our buses transport students across the entire metro area. When making school-closure decisions, we must take into account the entire Twin Cities.
  • On days when it is snowing heavily but school is open, we will excuse late arrivals, but our attendance policy stipulates that weather is not an excusable reason for a full-day absence.
  • Cancellation announcements of Kinderclub, after-school activities, athletics, and field trips will be made as early as possible and communicated in the same manner as above.
  • If we do not cancel school, TCGIS will always dismiss at its regularly scheduled time. Because our buses are shared with other schools across the metro, we will either make the decision to close school completely or proceed with our regularly scheduled hours for the full day.
