2023 Short Course on MARS.
This multidisciplinary, in-person training will be held at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia May 24-26, 2023. After three interactive, in-person sessions using lectures, case studies, and small group work, participants will be able to: (1) Articulate the ethical, practical, and scientific justification for inclusion of English language learners in research, including in funding applications; (2) Demonstrate fundamental verbal and non-verbal skills for clear, concise interpreter-mediated communication; (3) Evaluate and apply different translation protocols; and (4) Identify and prepare for language-related human and financial requirements across all phases of a research project, from design to publication.

Register for Co-Leadership in Research: Models and Approaches to Engaging Refugee and Immigrant Communities with Sarah Brewer, PhD MPA (Department of Family Medicine) and Farduus Ahmed, MSW (Department of Psychiatry, Immigrant and Refugee Mental Health Clinic) from the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. After this webinar, attendees will be able to: (1) Identify 2-3 models of community engagement in refugee and immigrant communities; (2) Discuss approaches to engagement and capacity building in immigrant and refugee health research; (3) Understand PCORI as one funding source for engaged research.
