During our Mass today, Bishop Iffert in his homily mentioned the choice that we have to accept Jesus as the Son of God. We can accept or reject this Faith. If we choose to accept this Faith, we are called to a life of discomfort. Being a Christian can be hard. We not only accept sacrifices, but we also, we seek them out and glorify them. We believe such discomforts like Lenten fasting, tithing, and visiting the sick ultimately prepare us for our eternal time with God. This week we celebrated St. John Baptist De La Salle, who along with Our Lady of Providence is one of Newport Central Catholic's patron Saints. De La Salle made many sacrifices in his life leaving behind a very wealthy lifestyle, joining the priesthood, and focusing on educating the poor. Accepting Christ as his and our Savior lends us the strength to endure such sacrifice, because it frames this world as temporary and such a framing can be difficult in a world focused on instant gratification. It is why we bring so much emphasis on people like De La Salle to our impressionable young people.
Gratefully,

Extended Community Information
Mr. Collopy, your principal, is currently a doctoral candidate in the Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Organizational Leadership program at Marian University. He is inviting students at Newport Central Catholic to participate in a research study about the effects of parenting interventions on students’ autonomy, resilience, and grit. Students 18 years old do not need parental permission, but students under the age of 18 years of age do. If you are an 18 year old student or a parent willing to have your child under 18 years old participate in this study, please click the appropriate link below to complete a consent form for yourself or your child. The study consists of two online assessments that should take no more than 15 minutes for the student to complete. More details about this study can be found at the links below. This is a completely voluntary study and in no way required. Your child’s participation would be greatly appreciated as it will not only aid me in earning my doctoral degree, but more importantly gain insight into the development of students.
Carlo Acutis Film - In conjunction with the canonization of Carlo Acutis on April 27, a film about his life will play in theaters, including local theaters, April 27, 28, & 29. Attached is a letter which includes a link to more information and ticket pre-sales. It would be great if you could encourage youth groups, schools, and other catechetical entities to promote this movie about the life of this young saint.
