Lakewood Residents,

Happy New Year! I hope you had a wonderful holiday season. We at City Hall are gearing up for all the projects, services, and events that 2026 will bring.

The Downtown Development is well underway following the ceremonial groundbreaking in September of 2025, and I am excited to see the buildings begin to rise throughout the next year.

The opening of the new Lakewood Animal Shelter will provide room for more wastewater and sewer infrastructure. Our CSO 052 project is scheduled to begin in 2026, and will help to eliminate sewer overflows from Lakewood into the Rocky River basin.

Phase I of the Bunts Road project will begin in 2026 as well. This phase stretches from Lakewood Heights Blvd. to Franklin Blvd., and consists of water and sewer improvements, road resurfacing, a shared use path for active transportation users, a parking lane with permeable pavers to help with stormwater runoff, and decorative lighting throughout the corridor.

Our overhaul of Winterhurst Ice Arena continues into the new year with the addition of more locker room space, an off-ice training area, and new, ADA-accessible stands.

In addition to these projects, you will see activity at Madison Park on the futsal courts and initial planning for updating Becks Pool.

It will be another busy year, and I am excited to get to work on all of these new, exciting projects!

Leaf Collection Updates

Winter's early arrival caused the leaf collection process to be put on hold at the end of November. In response, the City's Streets and Forestry team announced that it will attempt to collect leaves during any extended breaks in snowy and icy conditions.

Due to equipment limitations, we cannot guarantee that every street will be picked up during these stretches of mild weather.

We advise that residents may pile leaves on your tree lawn for a possible curbside pickup. For guaranteed removal, you can put them in yard waste bags and set them out on your normal refuse collection day for pickup.

Cove Community Center Hosts First Monthly Community Meal

On the first Wednesday of each month, Cove Community Center now hosts a community gathering designed to provide a hot meal to community members in need. The first such event took place on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, when approximately 40 diners attended and enjoyed the fine cooking of volunteers and staff from Lakewood's Human Services Department, H2O, and the Lakewood Finance Department.

The next meal will be held Wednesday, January 7. Doors open at 5:00 PM, and the meal is served at 5:30. All are welcome, and reservations are not needed.

There is also a drive-thru/pickup option for those that do not wish to stay and dine in.

Successful Inaugural "Cram The Cruiser" Event Provides Food and Donations for LCSC

On December 15, Lakewood proved once again that it is a community that cares for its neighbors. At the first-ever Cram The Cruiser event, Lakewood's Neighborhood Police Officers collected food and monetary donations at Giant Eagle to be donated to Lakewood residents in need, thanks to a partnership with the Lakewood Community Services Center.

Dozens of full bags of non-perishable food were donated as each of Lakewood's four wards took part in a friendly competition to see which ward could donate the most food. At the end of the night, the winner was Ward 3.

The Lakewood Police Department also pledged the $2600 from its "Beard Fund" – money pooled by officers that allows them to grow a beard outside of normal regulation – to the LCSC.

The LPD and the City are so thankful to residents and the officers who braved the cold to create one of the largest food donation events of the year.
