Bunts Road Fact Sheet

On May 19, the City of Lakewood released a Bunts Road Fact Sheet that contained details about the Bunts Road Rehabilitation Project. These details included the project scope, why Bunts is an ideal location for a shared-use path, clarifications on tree removal and re-planting, and data on the public engagement process. The fact sheet was mailed to every address on Bunts Road.

The Bunts Rehab webpage has also been updated with a section addressing some of the concerns surrounding the project.

We encourage all residents to visit the Bunts Road Rehab webpage linked below for thorough, up-to-date information on the project.

Park Ambassador Program Returns For Third Year

As summer returns to Lakewood, our parks once again become vibrant gathering spaces. Now in its third year, the Neighborhood Safety Specialists program continues to enhance the experience in our five busiest parks: Lakewood, Madison, Cove, Kauffman, and Wagar. These friendly, uniformed ambassadors—wearing purple and gold—are present seven days a week during peak hours throughout the warmer months.

The specialists serve as a welcoming presence, answering questions, assisting visitors, helping keep parks clean, and reporting any issues to City staff or safety forces. They also provide an added layer of visibility and support, helping deter problematic behavior through their steady, approachable presence.

Developed in coordination with the Lakewood Police Department, this initiative allows officers to focus on core duties while ensuring our parks remain safe and welcoming for all.

The program, managed through a contract with Block-by-Block, will continue to be evaluated for effectiveness and future direction. As you enjoy the beauty of Lakewood’s public spaces this season, be sure to say hello to our Neighborhood Safety Specialists and help us continue fostering community and connection in our parks.

Be Prepared For Severe Weather with ReadyNotify

As we embrace the warmth and sunshine of the next few months, it is also important that we acknowledge summer's heightened risk of severe storms in the Greater Cleveland area.

The tornadoes that impacted our region on August 6, 2024 serve as a poignant reminder of the importance of being prepared for extreme weather events. In the aftermath of these storms, the ReadyNotify system played a pivotal role in communicating with Lakewood's residents.

As we lost power and cellular data service for several days, our standard forms of communication were much more difficult. SMS messages, however, were more successful, and as a result, the City government was able to use the ReadyNotify system to provide storm updates and notify residents of cooling/charging centers and other local resources.

The City of Lakewood also uses ReadyNotify to alert residents of water main breaks, snow parking bans, road closures, and other local emergencies.

We encourage everyone to sign up for this service. Visit the link below for instructions on how to sign up for ReadyNotify alerts.

Niagara & Merl-Bunts Playgrounds Officially Re-Open

Two of Lakewood's playgrounds are open to the public just in time for summer! Merl-Bunts Park and Niagara Park's playgrounds were renovated over the fall of 2024 and winter of 2025.

The playground and park updates come as part of a citywide park improvement effort that has spanned the last several years.
