Note From Mr. Atkins

Only four weeks left and I can hardly believe it.

Even though we are still in the midst of the COVID-19 Pandemic, May will once again be our busiest month of the year. We've got many exciting activities coming up as we finish out the year. While things will look and feel different, we are grateful for the chance to celebrate together at all!

Modified school pictures will be taken on Tuesday, May 4th. Be sure to send your child with his/her order form that day. If you need one, our office has extras. Remote learners, get your class's assigned time from your teacher and we hope you can join us during that small window.

Field Day(s) will be taking place on May 11 & 13. Parents are welcome to join, but must remain masked on our property. Thank you to PTA for helping us identify volunteers to run each station.

Continuations will take place the last week of school with our beloved 5th Graders going first on Wednesday, May 26th at 10am. We are always sad to see students go, but we are extremely excited for what awaits them in Middle School. Their future is BRIGHT! Another thanks to our PTA who will be providing them with a special lunch on May 21st. Kindergarten and ECE families will celebrate their continuations here on Thursday, May 27th (ECE in the morning, Kinder in the afternoon). More details will be forthcoming as we finalize plans. All continuations will take place on our field and seating will be limited. DPS health and safety protocols will be in place (all guests must remain masked).

In alignment with our Black Excellence Plan and goals, I'd like to check in with our black families in the coming weeks. Please see details below on how to join me for a chat in May to discuss how your child is doing and answer any questions you may have.

We're excited to have our library up and running this Fall after construction this year and re-organization. We also received many new, diverse books that we are excited for students to get their hands on. Ali Larson will be recruiting volunteers over the summer to help us spruce everything up and prepare for a wonderful year of reading. Be sure to stay tuned! Until then, please make sure your child brings any of our Stedman Library books back to school. We have over 300 library books that are still checked out from before COVID times. We'd love to get these checked in and re-shelved.

Please remember to stay vigilant and safe practicing the important COVID precautions, and remember that our individual decisions have impacts on our broader community. We want to make sure we can finish the year together!

Don't forget to continue scrolling down for other updates. Thank you to our PTA for rallying the donors to support our school, we will be able to support many needs next year because of you!

Nota del Sr. Atkins

Solo quedan cuatro semanas y casi no puedo creerlo.

Community In Action

If you weren't aware, our very own School Board representative, Jennifer Bacon, also serves Colorado's House District 7 in the State House of Representatives. We are grateful for her leadership and pursuit of equity and justice both in education and government. A snippet below from a recent article aligns with the work we're doing here at Stedman as well.

But Bacon said discussing issues of race is often difficult because of a common misunderstanding about the basics of systemic racism and who it affects.

“People have said to me they’ve never experienced white privilege, multiple people. And the reason is, they’ve also never been sat down, or, because of their privilege, been made to understand what it means when we say it,” she said. “If you are an ally, you will believe people and their experiences, and not question it.”

We are so grateful for all of you!! We have surpassed our SECOND goal and are amazed at your generosity! We know the sky is the limit and the more we raise the more amazing things we can do for our students and our community Don't hesitate to keep spreading the word..... Please enjoy and share this video from some of our students saying thank you, thank you, thank you!

Please Return Library Books
We are excited to have our Library open once again this Fall, but we need your help! If you were here last year and your child checked out books prior to the COVID-19 pandemic, please look around your house for these books and send them back to your child's teacher so we can check these in and add them back to our collections. Any books that we can't find will have to be replaced, which means fewer new books added later. We have received many exciting new books that we can't wait for our students to enjoy, and we look forward to adding even more!

Reminder: Please return any Stedman Library books to the school!

Picture Day
Picture Day is taking place on Tuesday, May 4th. It will look different this year due to COVID-19 regulations, but we're excited to have something for families to remember this school year by.

Remote learners, please look at communication from your teacher to see what time you will need to join us at school for your photo. Remote learners will need to have a parent/guardian stay with them as they cannot attend class in person that day.

**Order forms went home with students last week! Send your order form with your child on Picture Day. We have extra order forms in the office if you need one!

You can also order online: before 9am on 5/4 (online access code: KG3LAHZP). See photos of the order form below.

We're excited for a modified Field Day to take place this Spring! Thank you to Mr. Rossi and our parent volunteers for making it happen.

Remote students are invited to attend and participate with their class at their assigned time (above). Remote students will not be able to attend class in the building that day, so parents/guardians must be able to drop-off/pick up at the start and end of the Field Day event for their grade.

Students are allowed to have parents/guardians attend (no more than 4 people per student), but all participants/attendees must wear a mask. Students will also celebrate with paletas (popsicles) thanks to our generous PTA!

**Please make sure your child brings a water bottle! A hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen can also be very helpful in the heat.

Extended Pandemic-EBT Benefits Returning
Colorado P-EBT benefits will begin in late May

The Colorado Department of Human Services (CDHS), in collaboration with the Colorado Department of Education (CDE), is pleased to announce that Coloradans with eligible school-enrolled children will begin to receive food benefits through the Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT) program starting in late May. This effort will help support Colorado's families during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The P-EBT program is designed to reimburse households for meals missed during school closures or reduced hours for students who are eligible for free and reduced-price school meals and attend a school that participates in the National School Lunch Program. This is a continuation of the P-EBT program that was initiated in July 2020 to reimburse families on free and reduced-price lunch for meals missed at school due to COVID-19. Families who qualify will receive a cash-like benefit for August through May of the 2020-21 school year for food-eligible purchases.

More information will be released in late May on P-EBT benefits. Further updates will be shared on the CDHS website, on CDHS social media channels, and through community partners.
