Note From Principal Trotter
Stedman Families,
Though it was a short week, we packed in a lot of learning and joy. I am excited for the start of a new semester on Monday as we enjoy resets throughout our building. I believe in holding our students and team to high expectations, and we have terrific plans in place to continue growing together.
Though the annual Marade with our Kindergarten and 1st Grade classrooms was canceled due to the Snow Day, we will be participating in a rescheduled event in late February. Stay tuned for more on that.
Next week is Health & Wellness Week! See below for opportunities to take part as we focus on our physical and mental health. Shout out to PTA for leading these efforts.

Familias Stedman,
Aunque fue una semana corta, acumulamos mucho aprendizaje y alegría. Estoy emocionado por el comienzo de un nuevo semestre el lunes mientras disfrutamos de reinicios en todo nuestro edificio. Creo en mantener altas expectativas para nuestros estudiantes y nuestro equipo, y tenemos planes fantásticos para seguir creciendo juntos.
Aunque la Marada anual con nuestros salones de kindergarten y 1er grado fue cancelada debido al Día de Nieve, participaremos en un evento reprogramado para fines de febrero. Estén atentos para más información sobre eso.
¡La próxima semana es la Semana de la Salud y el Bienestar! Consulte a continuación las oportunidades para participar mientras nos centramos en nuestra salud física y mental. Un saludo a la PTA por liderar estos esfuerzos.

Get pumped for Health and Wellness week NEXT WEEK! Check your students' folder for the 5210 challenge worksheet. If students fill out the entire week they will be entered in a raffle at the end of the week for a prize!
End the week with Students vs Grown Ups Kickball after school on Friday, January 26th. Play, Kick and Cheer on your fellow classmates. (Weather permitting).

UPDATE FROM PHNEE
Please join Park Hill Neighbors for Equity in Education for a Special Event: Integration and Equity in Denver Public Schools 50 Years After Keyes February 10, 2024 | 8:30 am - 2:00 pm, Manual High School, 1700 E 28th Ave, Denver, CO 80205.
In 1973, the Supreme Court made a landmark decision in Keyes v. Denver Public Schools, requiring DPS to desegregate all of its schools. Fifty years later, DPS is, by many measures, as segregated as it was before the decision with many of the same negative consequences for students. Current DPS policy acknowledges the need to “identify and remove deeply rooted systems of oppression” in order to ensure equity for every student. As we commemorate the 50th anniversary of Keyes, we have an opportunity and an obligation to dismantle this particular system of oppression in the hopes that we are not confronting the same challenges in another 50 years. Join Park Hill Neighbors for Equity in Education (PHNEE) as we explore the history of Keyes, acknowledge its unfulfilled promises of integration, and consider how we can ensure equity and excellence for every DPS student. NOTE FROM HEALTH OFFICE
Some of our 2nd Grade classrooms received a notification about a possible Chicken Pox exposure. Please note that our Nurse believes it was a low risk at this time, however we have been told that there are several outbreaks in some of the migrant communities around Denver. Please be sure to stay up to date on your vaccinations.

LONGMONT DAIRY MILK CAPS
If you receive Longmont Dairy products, please save your caps and bring them to the school. We receive 5 cents per cap, which adds up! You can feed your caps to Betsy, our new bin for collecting the caps. Besty will be located in the school, please ask the front office where she is if you do not see her near the main doors. This is a simple and easy way to raise money for PTA.

5th Grade Families - don't forget that Middle School is quickly approaching! You must make a selection between January 11-February 12 or you risk losing out on your top selection for next year. To help you in this process, we've gathered information here and will be taking students to see some of the nearby schools as well. We hope this sparks both excitement and curiosity in your student for what's to come! Reach out to Ms. Ali if you need any support with the SchoolChoice process.

January 27th is International Holocaust Remembrance Day
The United Nations General Assembly designated January 27—the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau—as International International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
On this annual day of commemoration, the UN urges every member state to honor the six million Jewish victims of the Holocaust and millions of other victims of Nazism and to develop educational programs to help prevent future genocides.
The Holocaust can be a difficult topic to explore with children, but this doesn't mean that we can't do it in age appropriate ways. We encourage you to take time to speak with your children about the important lessons and events from this awful time in recent history.
