Note From Principal Trotter
Stedman Families,
Happy Friday! We continue to engage in learning and growing together, and the warmer days have certainly been a nice addition.
I have a few quick reminders for families in today's newsletter.
- Please do not block our cafeteria and facilities driveway or dock as this is used frequently throughout the morning and afternoon for deliveries. We know this intersection is congested, so please keep in mind that even a short time parked may prohibit vehicles from getting through.
- Please do not send students to school with personal toys or sports equipment. We put out many items for play at recess, and personal items can often be mistaken, lost, or argued over. Encourage all students to use school equipment and keep personal items at home or in their backpacks.
- Thank you to everyone that participated int he 5210 Challenge! Turn your log in to the office by Tuesday, and we'll announce our raffle winners on Friday. Let's keep getting healtier!
- I've heard a lot about the annual Stedman Talent Show and can't wait to see it for myself. If your child is interested in trying out, make sure they sign up for an audition on February 7th or 8th. The sign up sheet will be located outside the auditorium starting Monday.
- If you missed our announcement about ECE next year, please read more here.
I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. See you on Monday!
In Partnership,
Robbin Trotter
Interim Principal

Nota de la directora Trotter
Familias Stedman,
¡Feliz viernes!
- He oído hablar mucho del Stedman Talent Show anual y no puedo esperar a verlo con mis propios ojos.
Director interino

UPDATE FROM PHNEE
Please join Park Hill Neighbors for Equity in Education for a Special Event: Integration and Equity in Denver Public Schools 50 Years After Keyes February 10, 2024 | 8:30 am - 2:00 pm, Manual High School, 1700 E 28th Ave, Denver, CO 80205.
In 1973, the Supreme Court made a landmark decision in Keyes v. Denver Public Schools, requiring DPS to desegregate all of its schools. Fifty years later, DPS is, by many measures, as segregated as it was before the decision with many of the same negative consequences for students. Current DPS policy acknowledges the need to “identify and remove deeply rooted systems of oppression” in order to ensure equity for every student. As we commemorate the 50th anniversary of Keyes, we have an opportunity and an obligation to dismantle this particular system of oppression in the hopes that we are not confronting the same challenges in another 50 years. Join Park Hill Neighbors for Equity in Education (PHNEE) as we explore the history of Keyes, acknowledge its unfulfilled promises of integration, and consider how we can ensure equity and excellence for every DPS student. Register here! And read this month’s full newsletter here!

LONGMONT DAIRY MILK CAPS
If you receive Longmont Dairy products, please save your caps and bring them to the school. We receive 5 cents per cap, which adds up! You can feed your caps to Betsy, our new bin for collecting the caps. Besty will be located in the school, please ask the front office where she is if you do not see her near the main doors. This is a simple and easy way to raise money for PTA.

Lunar New Year Festivities Begin February 10th
Lunar New Year is a celebration of the arrival of spring and the beginning of a new year on the lunisolar calendar. It is the most important holiday in China, and it is also widely celebrated in South Korea, Vietnam, and countries with a significant overseas Chinese population. While the official dates encompassing the holiday vary by culture, those celebrating consider it the time of the year to reunite with immediate and extended family.
Commonly known as the Spring Festival in China, Lunar New Year is a fifteen-day celebration marked by many traditions. At home, families decorate windows with red paper cuttings and adorn doors with couplets expressing auspicious wishes for the new year. Shopping for holiday sundries in open-air markets and cleaning the house are also beloved traditions. The Lunar New Year’s Eve reunion dinner is the highlight that kicks off the holiday, a feast with a spread of symbolic dishes, such as a whole fish representing abundance, that bring good luck and fortune. The fifteenth and final day of the holiday is the Lantern Festival, during which people have tangyuan, or sweet glutinous rice balls, and children carry lanterns around the neighborhood at night to mark the end of the celebration.
In the Chinese zodiac, 2024 is the year of the dragon. Different regions across Asia celebrate Lunar New year in many ways and may follow a different zodiac. We also acknowledge that many Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders do not observe the Chinese/lunar zodiac.
