Remote Instruction to Begin August 10
Remote instruction will begin Aug. 10. Check the Remote Instruction Quick Start Guide for information about registration, Chromebooks/laptops, remote learning, Canvas training for parents, and making contact with your teacher for the upcoming school year.

More information related to the start of school, distance learning, and extracurricular program updates can be found at www.newcaneyisd.org/back-to-school. Updates regarding the start of school will be posted on the district website and sent directly to parents through the district's notification system.
Please visit the Registration page for information about returning and new-student registration. Registration for returning students can be accomplished online through Skyward’s Family Access System. New student registration takes place online and in-person.
Please visit the Chromebook Information page to learn about receiving your student Chromebook. Chromebook distribution for the 2020-21 school year will take place on an appointment basis. Returning students who do not yet have a Chromebook should schedule an appointment to pick one up. Appointments are available Monday-Friday beginning Tuesday, July 28. Students new to the district this year will receive a Chromebook during the school registration process.
Please visit the Digital Learning page to learn about accessing the Canvas learning management system, including parent accounts, resources, and student support. Students in grades PK-12 currently have access to the Canvas Learning Management System. Canvas provides a single platform for students to access course materials, as well as educational apps and resources.
It’s crucial to login to Canvas the first day of school. Instruction begins on the first day, daily attendance is required, and the New Caney ISD grading policy will be followed. Teachers will contact parents the week of August 3. Login to Canvas before August 10 to begin to get connected to new courses. Instruction begins August 10.
Porter HS Student Winner of Congressional Art Contest
U.S. Congressman Kevin Brady recently announced the winners of the 2020 Congressional Art Competition. Briana Matematico, a senior at Porter High School, was awarded second place in the competition. Her work, as well as the other winning pieces from each congressional district, will be displayed in the halls of the United States Capitol Building for a year.

“The Congressional Art Competition is a big highpoint of the year,” said Brady. “I am always impressed by the aptitude and imagination that the young artists in our district display. This competition is a great chance for high school artists in the Eighth Congressional District of Texas to demonstrate their skill, and a great way for me to bring a little bit of Texas art to the U.S. Capitol.”

Each spring, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nation-wide high school visual art competition to identify and encourage artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district. Since the Artistic Discovery competition began in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated.
Infinity Early College HS Teacher Named Region 6 Secondary Teacher of the Year
Hanna Hollohazy of Infinity Early College High School was recently named Region 6 Secondary Teacher of the Year. Hollohazy, New Caney ISD’s Secondary Teacher of the Year for the 2019-20 school year, is now one of only 40 teachers in the state in consideration for Texas Teacher of the Year. Ms. Hollohazy, an English teacher, has been with NCISD for nine years.

Texas Teacher of the Year is the highest honor that the State of Texas can bestow upon a teacher. Each official district Elementary and Secondary Teacher of the Year in Texas is eligible to advance to the regional and state levels. The regional selection process is conducted in June-July by the 20 Texas Regional Education Service Centers. Each center names a Regional Elementary and Secondary Teacher of the Year. The 40 Regional Teachers of the Year are considered for Texas Teacher of the Year in a selection process facilitated by the Texas Association of School Administrators. When selecting the Texas Elementary and Texas Secondary Teachers of the Year, the judges designate one to serve as the official “Texas Teacher of the Year.” Texas’ nominee advances to the National Teacher of the Year program. In January, a selection committee representing the major national education associations selects four finalists for National Teacher of the Year from the nominees submitted by the 50 states.
