COMMUNITY ACTIVITES

Kicking Off the New Year in Brooklyn

On January 7, the team spent the day at the GrowNYC Grand Army Plaza Greenmarket in Brooklyn. We had a wonderful time meeting neighbors and handing out Community Offshore Wind branded tote bags. GrowNYC Greenmarkets has been promoting regional agriculture since 1976 and supplying fresh, local produce to all New Yorkers. Stay tuned as we make our way around the state at community events near you.

WHAT WE'VE DONE

Community Offshore Wind Launches First Offshore Site Assessment Survey in New York Bight

Community Offshore Wind launched its geophysical survey campaign at the project lease area in the New York Bight. The survey will study the seabed conditions within the project lease area and potential export cable corridors in the area. Onboard the survey vessel is the Offshore Fisheries Liaison. He is a local commercial fisherman and will manage communication and coordination with fisheries at sea. In advance of the survey, a Community Offshore Wind Fisheries Representative, an active commercial fisherman from Barnegat Light, NJ used his vessel to scout the area for fishing gear and other obstructions. Information from the scout vessel helps the survey vessel to avoid fishing gear, as well as objects that could damage the survey instruments.

The Long Island Association's State of the Region Breakfast on January 6 provided a great opportunity to hear from Suffolk County Executive Steven Bellone, Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman, and Senator Chuck Schumer on the thriving and sustainable Long Island economy powered by family-sustaining, clean energy jobs.

Governor Hochul's State of the State Address

It was an honor to attend New York Governor Hochul's January 10 State of the State address. Community Offshore Wind applauds Governor Hochul’s commitment to continue investing in port infrastructure and workforce development to position New York as the east coast supply chain hub for offshore wind. We stand ready to help deliver on the state's clean energy and emissions reduction goals.
