Welcome to the October Edition of

Offshore Wind News & You by Community Offshore Wind.

Here's a snapshot of what our team has been up to over the month:

COMMUNITY ACTIVITES

Improving Water Quality with the Atlantic Marine Conservation Society

In September, we sponsored the Atlantic Marine Conservation Society's Night at the Ocean event held at the Jones Beach Energy & Nature Center in Wantagh, NY. Their mission to promote marine conservation through action and improve water quality fits into our three pillars of community investment: Environment, Energy and Education.

Lessons in Wind to Over 200 New York City Public School Students From Underserved Communities

In early October, we announced our partnership with Hudson River Community Sailing (HRCS)! Now through June 2023, we will be offering lessons in wind through sailing to over 200 New York City public school students from underserved communities.

The partnership attracts students from across the five boroughs to learn about wind energy and navigation at Pier 66 in Chelsea, and Dyckman Marina in Inwood, New York. The program is designed to build leadership and maritime skills for a more inclusive, equitable workforce of tomorrow in offshore wind.

“Our partnership with Hudson River Community Sailing is providing New York City public school students from underserved communities with math, science and leadership skills through sailing,” said Doug Perkins, President and Project Director of Community Offshore Wind. “Lessons in the power of wind energy and water navigation are critical for future careers in offshore wind. By enabling students with STEM education and on-water accessibility, Community Offshore Wind seeks to build the workforce of tomorrow.”

2022 ACP Offshore WINDPOWER Conference and Exhibition

Last week, our team attended the 2022 American Clean Power (ACP) Offshore WINDPOWER Conference and Exhibition in Providence, Rhode Island. It was a great experience connecting with the offshore wind community as our industry's momentum continues to move forward.

Brightening a Child's Day at the Hasbro Children's Hospital

At Community Offshore Wind, putting communities first is our priority. While in Providence, RI for ACP, we donated 100 fall and Halloween care packages of fun educational information about renewable energy to the Hasbro Children's Hospital. The donation is our way to give back and brighten a child’s day.

Supporting Long Island Entrepreneur in honor of Down Syndrome Awareness Month

October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month. As part of our mission to support local, diverse businesses in the communities we serve and to raise awareness of Down Syndrome Month, our team handed out Community Offshore Wind branded John's Crazy Socks from our booth at ACP.

John’s Crazy Socks is a local Long Island business owned by John and Mark Cronin, a father and son duo. John, the son, is a young man with Down Syndrome who partnered with his father to spread their mission of happiness.

Today, they run one of the largest sock stores in the world. More than half of their workforce have a differing ability and it is John and Mark's goal to show what people with differing abilities can accomplish.
