Community Partners Continue to Drive STEM Education Virtually
Our local community has several excellent resources for learning enrichment - such as libraries, museums, and STEM science centers - in times where getting out is challenging, engaging in STEM activities doesn't have to be! Our Community partners have been hard at work to provide virtual experiences, including programs, tours and kits!

  • The Boeing Company - Bring the real world into the classroom by taking students on a journey to places outside their city, country, even planet. These behind-the-scenes videos transport students to places where innovation meets creativity and shows there is no one path toward success in a STEM career.

  • Imagine Children’s Museum - Interactive STREAM (science, technology, reading, engineering, art, math) learning experiences delivered to your group. Ideal for classrooms, afterschool groups and learning pods, each program can be adapted for virtual, hybrid or on-site delivery. Each offers an engaging hands-on learning experience to enrich your curriculum.

  • Rocksolid Science - Supplement independent learning time with fun, online science classes. While we’re social distancing, virtual classes are a safe way to “catch up” with buddies, share collections, laugh out loud, and participate in structured, engaging activities! A custom curated material kit is included in the cost of each session.

  • Sno-Isle Libraries - To Do! To Go! activities and crafts are physical, take-home bundles that are available for contact-free pick-up at each community library. These fun, engaging and tech-free activities may include printable booklets, science experiments, art projects and more.

  • Stemtree of Mukilteo - Committed to providing your child with the resources he/ she needs to make up for lost in-person instruction time. We will also provide your child with a safe, fun, and educational environment for his/her social interactions, a very important factor in child development.

Local Career Connected Learning is Going Virtual
As part of the North Puget Sound Coordinating Network, Snohomish STEM is currently working in partnership with NW Washington STEM Network and ESD189 to develop virtual and local career connected learning content. This collaboration and development is possible through funding from Career Connect Washington High Needs Grant.
PUD Artbot Kit Giveaway
Community Connections Activities
Are you a parent or guardian with kids who like to build and tinker? Are you a classroom teacher with students grades 3 and up?

Snohomish County PUD is excited to offer free Artbot kits to families and classroom teachers for a fun hands-on science experience. Your kids can build a wiggly drawing creation with a motor! Our kits include everything they’ll need to successfully build their bot, except for tape and a little creativity. We’re inviting kids to experiment with the materials provided, as well as supplies they may have at home. Let the fun begin!

Share photos of student creations with PUD and all submitted photos will be entered to win a Renewables Snap Circuit kit. Please email [email protected] with any questions.

Limit 3 per family. Teachers can order one for each student in their class, as well as one for themselves. There are 500 kits to give away.
Tips for Celebrating a Safe Halloween
Kids, families and businesses have had to approach a number of traditions and favorite pastimes differently this year. That will continue with fall and winter holidays ahead, particularly with Halloween quickly approaching.

Similar to tips released by the Washington State Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Snohomish Health District recommends opting for household-only and/or virtual activities. From scavenger hunts or movie marathons, to costume or pumpkin carving contests online, sticking with ghouls and goblins at home is best.

For more on recommendations, see the Health District’s press release. They have also created an activities page with coloring pages, and more to be added in the coming days.
Students Can Send a Postcard to Space
Earth is finite. To protect our gem of a planet and enable a future of abundance and growth, Earth needs space. Space gives Earth room to grow, new resources, more frontiers to explore, and a way forward that unites us all. We just need you to help visualize this future.

Why do you think Earth needs space? Write or draw your vision on a postcard. The Club will launch it to space and back on a Blue Origin New Shepard rocket, and mail it to you with a 'Flown to Space' stamp.

NASA and Microsoft STEM Partnership
Microsoft hosted a virtual DigiCamp, which included representatives from NASA, on Monday, October 26, 2020 in Snohomish County. Check it out!

Immerse your students in a fun and interactive data science project as you celebrate your own Day of Data. Choose from two 50 minute activities that are suited for remote learning. Two levels are offered, depending on your students’ comfort with data, to meet them where they are and get them excited! Your students can explore data in a self-paced Excel workbook, and have the option to reflect on their experiences using Flipgrid. Don't forget to check out the video overview of each workbook to get started!

Plus, on November 2 at 10:00 am students have the opportunity to talk with a NASA astronaut!
