NISD teachers receive more than $84,000 from NEF

Congratulations to the 2018-2019 NEF innovative teaching grant recipients!  This year, NEF awarded 27 grants totaling more than $84,000 across 19 campuses.  Grants provided resources to support programs in literacy, STEM, special education, fine arts, college and career readiness and more.  Special thank you to the grant reading committee, volunteers and donors who made this year's grant brigade such a success!

NEF Partner Spotlight
The Partner Spotlight highlights local businesses and community leaders who work together with the NISD Education Foundation to enhance the quality of education in Northwest ISD.  The generous contribution of their talents and resources helps to advance the foundation's goal, which is to provide financial support to empower educators through innovative teaching grants and encourage future-ready students through scholarships awarded annually to graduating seniors.

Thank you for your generosity and continued support!

Pogue Construction

Pogue Construction was the Presenting Sponsor at the 2018 Northwest Heritage Gala, an annual event benefiting the foundation, which raised more than $100,000 for grants and scholarships.  In addition to event sponsorships, Pogue recently donated their time and talents to the NEF grant-reading committee.  Their marketing team helped blind grant applications for review, assembled binders for the 30-person committee, and donated breakfast and lunch for volunteers when they met at the NISD Administration Building.  Zach Walker represents Pogue Construction on the NEF Board of Directors where he serves as Vice President of Programs.

Huckabee was the VIP Sponsor at the 2018 Northwest Heritage Gala.  Huckabee is committed to supporting education, whether it is through their architectural and engineering services or their community outreach efforts.  Last year, the company awarded the Huckabee Encouraging Excellence Scholarship to five graduating seniors, including two students at Byron Nelson High School, two students at V.R. Eaton High School and one student at Northwest High School.  Last week, volunteers joined NEF for its annual grant brigade as the sponsor for three innovative teaching grants supporting STEM, literacy and special education.

TexOp Construction

TexOp Construction was the Foundation Champion at the 2018 Northwest Heritage Gala, and the Birdie Sponsor at this year's NEF Legends Golf Tournament, an annual event that raises funds to support the foundation's student scholarship program.  The company's passion for supporting the foundation and district goes beyond the business partnership with most of their leadership team having grown up in the district and attended Northwest ISD schools.  TexOp has also supported the foundation on North Texas Giving Day and Giving Tuesday, and contributed to the Partners in Education Virtual Angel Tree program.  Danny Simpson, a managing partner at TexOp Construction, serves as a representative on the NEF Advisory Board.

New Adopt-a-School Partner
God Built Roofs--represented by owners Lauren and Leon Reyes.  GBR has been collaborating with Lakeview Elementary on various campus initiatives.  PIE is pleased to welcome God Built Roofs as an adopt-a-school partner.
We currently have a number of students identified as having needs ranging from study skills, to emotional needs, to just needing someone to talk to in a different setting or different way.  These kids would benefit from having an extra concerned adult in their lives.  With your help, we can have a transformative effect on lives and an even bigger effect on the communities we serve.

The committment is flexible.  We have mentors that come in for an hour a week, and we have others that can give more time, and still others that have less to give.  By working together, we will make a difference in the academic success of the kids in the community through a very valuable outreach.  To become involved, call your child's counselor today.
