Community engagement is at the forefront of my mission to provide resources, events, and support for our residents and businesses. My motto of "Putting You First...Keeps Us First" will continue to be my guide. In recognition of National Apprenticeship Week (April 26 – May 2, 2026), I am proud to highlight the importance of creating pathways that connect our residents to meaningful careers. Apprenticeship programs play a critical role in strengthening our workforce by providing hands-on training, real-world experience, and opportunities to earn while learning, and they are especially important for our youth as they offer a clear path to success beyond the traditional classroom—equipping young people with practical skills, confidence, and a strong foundation for their future. Throughout my service, I have remained committed to expanding access to these opportunities and ensuring the next generation is prepared to thrive in high-demand industries, and I encourage our community to explore the many apprenticeship pathways available as we continue investing in a future where opportunity is accessible to all.

April is Earth Month — a time dedicated to raising awareness about environmental protection and encouraging communities to take action in preserving our planet for future generations. Established to inspire sustainability and environmental stewardship, this month serves as a reminder that even the smallest actions can create meaningful, lasting impact.

Broward County is proud to support a greener, more sustainable future through initiatives that protect natural resources, enhance green spaces, and promote environmental education. The County’s Resilient Environment Department plays a key role in advancing sustainability and preparing our community for environmental challenges. From tree giveaways and conservation programs to climate-focused planning and infrastructure improvements, Broward County remains committed to preserving our environment while improving quality of life for all residents.

Whether it’s safeguarding our waterways, expanding parks, or encouraging sustainable practices, Broward County continues to take meaningful action to ensure a cleaner, healthier, and more resilient community for generations to come.

I invite students to apply for the Broward County District 7 Office Volunteer Internship Program, an opportunity to gain hands on experience in local government while supporting impactful community initiatives. Through this program, participants can contribute to public service and outreach efforts, assist with policy research, and strengthen their communication and leadership skills in a professional setting. Applicants must be currently enrolled students with strong communication abilities and availability of up to 20 hours per week. This is an unpaid volunteer opportunity, and academic credit may be available. I encourage interested students to apply or scan the provided code to learn more.

Animal Care Launches Volunteer Campaign 

In recognition of National Volunteer Month, Broward County Animal Care is calling on residents to get involved through its new campaign: “Volunteers Save Lives. Period.” Volunteers play a key role in helping shelter pets thrive while they wait for adoption, such as walking dogs and socializing with cats. These interactions reduce stress, improve behavior, and increase the chances of pets finding their forever home. Flexible opportunities are available for individuals, families, and groups with no prior experience required. Opportunities are available immediately. Residents are encouraged to sign up and begin serving this month.

Join the Discussion on TransitFORWARD 2040

Residents are invited to take part in upcoming community meetings on Broward County’s TransitFORWARD 2040 Vision Plan, a long-term strategy to improve transit options across the County. Led by the Broward County Commission and Broward County Transit, the plan focuses on enhancing connectivity, expanding service and improving access through initiatives like increased service frequency, new micro transit zones, and upgraded amenities. These in-person presentations offer an opportunity for residents to learn about proposed improvements and share feedback as Broward continues building a more connected, rider-focused transit system.

FIFA World Cup 2026 Supplier Opportunities

With the FIFA World Cup 2026 on the horizon, local businesses across Broward County have an opportunity to be a part of the action. The FIFA World Cup 2026 Miami Host Committee is inviting local vendors to complete its Local Suppliers Interest Form to support events like the FIFA Fan Festival and other regional activations. This is a chance for municipalities and local partners to work together and showcase Broward’s diverse business community.

Broward Convention Center Traffic Alert for Surrounding Areas

Please be advised that the Convention Center will be hosting multiple events this weekend, which will lead to increased traffic in the area. Event attendees are encouraged to arrive early, plan for additional travel time, and consider using public transportation or rideshare options. Surrounding residents and businesses should anticipate increased congestion and may want to use alternate routes.

City of Pembroke Pines

The Planning and Economic Development Department is responsible for coordinating the City’s housing programs available through state and federal programs. The City partners with a local vendor, Community Redevelopment Associates of Florida, Inc. (CRAFLA), to implement and process the City’s housing programs.  

• Housing Grant Programs: The City of Pembroke Pines is pleased to offer purchase assistance for very low-to-moderate-income households seeking to buy a property for use as their primary residence. Funding is available on a first-come, first-qualified basis until program funds are exhausted. Assistance comes in the form of a 0% interest deferred second loan that converts to a grant if all program conditions are met.
• Sewer Connection Grant: The City of Pembroke Pines is pleased to offer a grant program to assist low- to moderate-income homeowners who are required to connect to Broward County’s sewer system. The program is administered by Community Redevelopment Associates of Florida, Inc. (CRA) on behalf of the City. CRA will manage the intake process and review applications for eligibility. This program provides eligible Pembroke Pines residents with up to $10,000 in financial assistance to cover costs.

A Closer look at Property Tax and Why It Matters

The City of Pembroke Pines recently shared an important update on a proposed change by the State of Florida to eliminate property taxes. While this may sound like relief for homeowners, property taxes fund essential local services like public safety, parks, libraries, and infrastructure. Eliminating them could significantly impact the services residents rely on every day.

The City of Pembroke Pines is accepting submissions for the 21st Annual Art Competition. Artists 18 years or older residing in the tri-county area (Broward, Dade, and Palm Beach counties) are eligible to participate. Accepted artworks will be on display at Studio 18 Art Complex from May 29 to August 5, 2026. We are accepting applications from now until May 4th, 2026. Artists must be 18 years or older and residing in Broward, Miami-Dade, or Palm Beach counties in order to participate.

• Artists may only apply to one (1) medium category and can submit up to three (3) artworks within that medium.

• The application below must be downloaded, completed, and emailed, along with pictures of the artwork, to studio18@ppines.com

• This application must be accompanied by one high-resolution photograph per artwork. Each piece of artwork submitted requires a $15.00 payment. Check and cash payments can be dropped off to Studio 18 Art Complex. Credit Card payments can be made online using CivicRec.

City of Miramar

Housing Assistance Programs

The City of Miramar's Housing Division is dedicated to providing affordable, safe, and stable housing to enhance community well-being and support low- to moderate-income families in achieving economic success and a high quality of life. The city has created the following programs to aid with housing:

• First-time Homebuyer Program: This program provides down payment and closing cost assistance to very-low and low-income first-time homebuyers. The amount of assistance varies with income level and is available on a first-come, first-qualified basis until no more funding remains under the program. Assistance is in the form of a 15-year, 0% interest deferred second loan that reverts to a grant if all program conditions are met. Please contact City’s grant consultant, Community Revitalization Affiliates, Inc at (954) 939-3271 for up-to-date funding availability
• Residential Utility Connection: This program provides grant assistance up to $5,000 to connect to the City’s main sewer system. This activity benefits low income persons. This is a one-time grant provided by the City of Miramar. A second mortgage is not applied to the property.
• Rental Assistance Program: This program provides up to $8,000 to assist eligible households with the required upfront rental deposit (first and/or last month’s rent) and/or utility connection/start-ups to move into a new unit. This is a one-time grant provided by the City of Miramar and is not on-going monthly rental assistance.

Miramar offers a variety of programs and resources to help businesses succeed by fostering growth, supporting local entrepreneurs, and creating opportunities to connect with city contracts and the broader business community. From grants and financial incentives to counseling services, networking events, and streamlined permitting, the City is dedicated to making Miramar a place where businesses can start strong, expand with confidence, and thrive for the long term.

• Business Industry Development (BID) Program – Supports local, small, minority, and women-owned businesses by facilitating contracting and development opportunities.
• Contracting Opportunities – The city maintains bid opportunities, with notifications available through Onvia DemandStar. Preference points are available for local and small business bidders.
• Small Business Signage Program – Provides up to $10,000 in financial assistance for signage improvements.
• Small Business Grant Program – Offers funds to help businesses grow and expand operations.
• Vacant Storefront Cover Program – A no-cost program to install artistic coverings on vacant storefronts to improve commercial corridors.
• Vendor Registration – Businesses can register online to do business with the City of Miramar, with a brochure available to guide the process.
• Business Services – Free counseling through SCORE and the Miramar-Pembroke Pines Chamber, commercial rehabilitation assistance for property owners, expedited permitting for certain projects, and planning/zoning support.

Getting around Miramar is easy and free with the Mira Motion Community Shuttle. Four routes connect neighborhoods to key destinations, local attractions, and Broward County Transit, offering a convenient option for work, school, appointments, and more. All routes begin and end at the Miramar Town Center Transportation Hub.

Hours: Monday through Friday

(No service on weekends or holidays)

The shuttle is free to ride. Connecting to Broward County Transit may require fares.

The City of Hollywood and Broward County are committed to supporting residents through a variety of affordable housing initiatives. Both local governments offer housing assistance programs designed to increase access to safe, stable, and affordable housing. Whether you’re a first-time homebuyer or a renter facing financial hardship, there are resources available to help.

• City of Hollywood First-Time Homebuyer Purchase Assistance Program​: Qualified buyers can receive a deferred payment loan at 0% interest, 15-year term, up to $50,000 to purchase property within Hollywood's eligible Neighborhood Pride areas. • The City of Hollywood’s Rental Assistance - Eviction Prevention program, using State Housing Initiative Partnership (SHIP) funds, offers help to renters who might be on the verge of homelessness due to not being able to afford their rent. The funds for the program are administered, by the City of Hollywood Community Development Division, as a grant and no repayment is required. • The Housing Rehabilitation Loan is secured by a mortgage and promissory note prepared by the City. The terms of the mortgage and note are as follows: A deferred payment loan for thirty 30 years, unless the home is sold, rented, ceases to be the primary residence of the homeowner, or is transferred or conveyed by any other means. Zero (0) percent interest. The debt is payable in full on the maturity date set forth in the Mortgage that is thirty years from the date of the signing of the Promissory Note and Mortgage. Flashback Friday: Commissioner Davis Speaks about the Youth Apprenticeship Program in Miramar

This week’s #FlashbackFriday, I’m reflecting on my time serving in the City of Miramar and the creation of a Youth Apprenticeship Program designed to expand opportunities for our young people. I recognized the need to provide alternative pathways for those who may not pursue a traditional college route, and created this program to offer hands-on training in essential trades such as utilities, mechanical services, and more.

Through this initiative, participants were able to gain real-world experience while continuing their education—working alongside experienced professionals and building a strong foundation for their future careers. Creating opportunities and staying connected to the needs of our community has always been at the heart of my service, and this program is a reflection of that commitment.

Orange Bowl Food & Wine Festival

I had the honor of attending the Orange Bowl Food & Wine Celebration at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Hollywood. The event, which featured South Florida’s top chefs, award-winning restaurants, premium wines and spirits, and live entertainment, was a vibrant celebration of our region’s culinary excellence and culture. It was a meaningful gathering that not only highlighted innovation in the local food scene but also supported impactful initiatives through the Orange Bowl Committee and its Orange Bowl Cares programs, which continue to uplift youth, education, and families across our community.

I truly value these moments because they allow me to remain accessible and responsive, ensuring that the work we do reflects the real needs of our residents.
