Food Access and Summer Food Programs
Summer is here and can be a difficult time for families with children that are now at home for the summer. Here is some information regarding summer food programs in our community. See information regarding summer food programs in Columbus and Schuyler below.
Columbus Area United Way is a part of ongoing food efforts. In partnership with Catholic Charities of Omaha, monthly food box distributions are occurring for households with children in the home. These food boxes are distributed directly to local organizations who then distribute to their participants.
We are also continuing our efforts to feed the seniors in our area by doing monthly distributions specifically for those aged 60+. Community organizations identify those in need and distribute accordingly.
Our food rescue efforts will start at the end of June. We work with a local producer to rescue the produce they are unable to sell due to wind burn, small blemishes, etc. and distribute to individuals and households in our local area. We are grateful for the organizations we partner with to get this produce and all food to those that need it.
We have created a great resource for food resources. Please see the food matrix below.
