Storytime with Community Prevention

Who doesn’t love a good story?

Community Prevention has supported families in our area for many years, and with the Find Help platform, we can now more clearly show the impact of Central Navigation and Coaching. The platform allows us to look at specific time periods and see the real numbers behind the lives touched.

From December 2025 through February 2026, 93 individuals—whether visiting our office, calling in, or being served through a partner agency—completed the Bring Up Nebraska (BUN) intake form. Within their homes lived 118 children, and during this three‑month period, these families received a total of 296 referrals for community programs and supports.

Behind these numbers is someone like Jenny, a mother of five who met with a Central Navigator on a cold December morning. After losing her job her main objective was to find employment. She knew she wouldn’t be able to pay all her monthly bills on time and keep her family fed. During her intake, the navigator listened closely, helped her identify immediate needs, and explored resources that could support her longer‑term goals.

From that single conversation, Jenny received five referrals: two for food access assistance (one to a local food security network and another for an agency that would pick up a supplemental food box), one to coaching services that could guide her in setting financial and family goals, one to an entity that provided winter coats for the children, and one for rental and utility assistance. In the weeks that followed, she kept her family housed and had heat and electricity, had enough money to purchase supplemental food for her family, kept her children warm, and began meeting with her coach to plan next steps. For her, these referrals weren’t just services—they were small anchors of stability and hope.

When we look back at the data—296 referrals for 93 intakes—Jenny’s experience helps explain why the numbers add up the way they do. Most families aren’t facing just one challenge; like Jenny, they often need support in multiple areas. Each intake opens the door to several meaningful connections, and together, these individual stories are what bring the data to life.

February 2nd was a collaboration for our Rooted in Relationship providers. We spent time sharing our station ideas for The Week of the Young Child events at the library April 14-16. Please see the flyer attached below. We will be doing a free movie for the whole family on Sunday, April 12th at the Schuyler Theater.

Then, on the third floor of the library, we will be providing music, crafts, food, stories, and activities for children 3-5, but all are welcome! Come celebrate children and learn about a new community book we are putting out this fall, and how you can get your child in it.

February 14th was our Valentine’s Day Training for Cohort 2 on A Trauma-Sensitive Approach in Early Care and Education. This was our last training with our Cohort 2, but it won’t be the last time we see them. This is a very dedicated group who have really stepped up in our community and will continue to shine using their talents.

Rooted providers are partnering with a few providers from Schuyler and the Schuyler High School, to put together a video promoting childcare. We have four center-based providers/directors and 3 home providers, to share their love for the field and encourage others to consider this for themselves. Filming this March.

PRAPARE Survey

We need your help.

We are partnering with the East Central District Health Department to distribute a brief community survey. The results will help identify factors that impact the health of our community members, often referred to as social determinants of health. These surveys are vital to collect data in our communities.

The survey is available in both English and Spanish. It contains 11 questions and takes approximately 2 minutes to complete.

We ask you distribute the survey to:

  • Those who volunteer within your organization
  • Staff at your organization, if applicable
  • Those served at your organization

These surveys can be completed online by scanning the QR code. You can also print them and get them back to our office by dropping off or mailing to 3214 25th Street.

Food Access Resources

One word that we like to use to describe ourselves is "connectors." We connect people to resources, to help, to others that can help. With the rising food insecurity needs, a food matrix was created that has resources, as well as information regarding 2-1-1 and Find Help to connect participants to the resources they need. Please find these items below.
