Community Resource Sharing Newsletter

2025 brought us joy, growth, and collaboration. We are grateful for your partnership as it makes us stronger and helps our community get better every single day. We can't wait to see what 2026 brings.

We'll see you in the New Year!

The October Collaborative Meeting was filled with important information. We had a speaker with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) who discussed mental health and all of the resources available. Molly with East Central Health District discussed the social determinants of health and a survey that will be pushed out to gather data on our local area. This survey should be shared with the participants you serve. We also went over the community needs and resources that discussed at the October in-person meeting.

The collaborative had many successes this year and time was taken to discuss all of the great things that we accomplished! Take some time to celebrate your own victories from this year!

Check out all the fun attachments below! Information regarding NAMI, the Prepare Survey, Meeting Minutes, October Evaluation Results and the 2025 successes.

Community Prevention

My year at the Columbus Area United Way is almost over, and what a year it’s been! The first thing I’d like to express is my deep gratitude to and reverence for the Columbus Area United Way leadership and my fellow team members. Not only did they coach me with patience and grace, but their collective spirit of compassion and dedication to service is contagious.

I was probably more surprised than anyone that my first real job after college would be in the community-outreach nonprofit sector, especially since my college major was German Culture and Literature. Thankfully, Hope decided to take a chance on me, and I’m glad to say that I’ve learned lessons and gained skills I didn’t even know I previously lacked. I now recognize that learning is THE most important part of this job, mostly because the learning never stops.

It’s easy to start out knowing that what we do takes empathy and understanding, but the real challenge lies in humility. People can overcome almost any differences, but only if they’re willing to put in the work. Someone’s world view may be far different, but not inferior, to yours. And most importantly, that just a few things going wrong in your own life could have you needing the same kind of help someday. It’s hard to ask for help, but in a thriving community, there should always be judgment-free help available.

Again, I’d like to sincerely thank all the wonderful people who make CAUW possible and who have helped me along the way. I have enjoyed visiting the industries, taking part in training/seminars, meeting and collaborating with passionate, talented people from agencies like our own, and just getting to know the outstanding community of Columbus. I’m coming away with lasting friendships and a whole new outlook on what it means to be there for others. It’s hard to imagine a better first big-girl job than this one!

As the days grow shorter and the holiday season approaches, it is common for many people to experience increased isolation, lower energy, or shifts in mood. We would like to take this opportunity to reminded everyone that connection and purposeful activity are powerful protective factors for mental health and overall well-being, especially during times of reduced daylight and heightened seasonal stress. Making time for meaningful interactions, gentle movement, creative outlets, or community involvement can help regulate mood, reduce loneliness, and foster a sense of hope and belonging. This season, we encourage individuals, families, and communities to check in with one another, stay engaged in activities that bring even small moments of joy, and remember that reaching out for connection can be a life-affirming act.

Food Access Resources

One word that we like to use to describe ourselves is "connectors." We connect people to resources, to help, to others that can help. With the rising food insecurity needs, a food matrix was created that has resources, as well as information regarding 2-1-1 and Find Help to connect participants to the resources they need. Please find these items below.

LB304 is a bill that makes permanent the current income eligibility requirements for child care assistance. Without this bill, eligibility for child care assistance will be reduced in 2026, which will significantly impact thousands of families in Nebraska.

What can YOU do?
