Green Eggs and Ham? Not quite…but close.

You do not like green eggs and ham?

Do you like ground beef and eggs? Well, it’s a grand slam!

For a few more months, we have funds to purchase more,

For food pantries their shelves to stock and restore.

We surveyed food pantries and found that they needed

Eggs and ground beef; that information we heeded.

They told us they wanted eggs and beef,

We ordered some of each to give them less grief.

We’re working with small producers to order the food,

They have been amazing to work with an have a great ‘tude.

We order beef from a farmer or two,

Then they take the beef to be processed all thru,

We pick up beef from a meat locker and then portion out

To pantries requesting to distribute no doubt.

The eggs they come from a few different folks,

Yes, we provide both the whites and the yolks.

The hens they weren’t laying much when the daylight was short

Days are longer now, and they will resort

To laying more eggs for us to secure

And give to those in need for sure.

How many eggs can fit in my van?

510 dozen easily, count them if you can.

In March 510 dozen was given away

To food pantries without them needing to pay.

And 675# of ground beef went there too,

All for distribution, who even knew?

CAUW/CFP - we work hard each day

To help our communities, to live, work and play.

Schuyler Mayor Art Lindberg signs two proclamations at the Tuesday, April 1st City Council meeting. The first designated April as Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month. The second proclamation recognized April 5 th - 11 th as The Week of the Young Child. The Week of the Young Child celebrates young children and their families. It also shines a spotlight on early childhood care and education, advocacy, and family engagement. Strong Starts Schuyler will help celebrate this week with a parent and caregiver learning opportunity and family activities each day of the week.  Child Care Cupids was a big hit! Thank you to all the individuals and businesses who donated to purchase items from Schuyler licensed

childcare providers' wish lists. More than $800 worth of toys, games, and books were delivered to our gracious childcare providers.

Cheryl Drozd, RIR Coordinator

We have been in recruiting mode this month preparing for our next year’s Rooted Crew. There were three informational meetings, two in person and one on zoom the evening of the blizzard and an additional coffee date on the following Saturday for those who could not make the meetings. With the help of our alumni, Rooted providers shared their experiences and the relationships that have been made over the last five years, and we had eighteen providers sign up for our fifteen spots that are available. I am so proud of our Rooted Team and the love from the community with this program. We are now in brainstorming mode for figuring out our numbers. It is a good mode to be in.

We also had our last Partnering with Parents Class for the grant year and it was a powerful one at that. Small but mighty with relationship building, time listening and free space for sharing. When you can offer a parent free childcare from the best providers in the county and space to share frustrations and concerns, you create a night of change and solutions that make a difference. So thankful for all our sponsors and their ability to do this in our community.

Community Prevention Director

Libby Crecco and Belle Maldonado have. begun providing Central Navigation for

employees at Cargill, Behlen, BD’s, and Camaco. Libby has begun providing Central

Navigation at the Columbus Community Building. This expansion of our Central

Navigation service has been well received.

The Community Prevention staff were able to participate in a Know Your Rights training provided by Centro Hispano. Columbus Area United Way has orange folders, in English and Spanish, for families to utilize for future planning and educational material regarding immigration. These folders are available to the community as well as providers that would like to offer this information to the clients they serve.

April is Child Abuse Prevention Month and staff will be participating in “Wear Blue” day on Friday, April 4, 2025. All children deserve to have a safe and happy childhood, because children are our future. We all have the power to protect children, it is assimply as one phone call to the Child Abuse/Neglect Hotline at 1-800-652-1999.
