Educating People and Preparing Families Who May Be Affected By Possible Deportation

In case you couldn’t attend, the virtual CFP collaborative meeting held last week revolved around supporting and preparing families who may be affected by possible deportation due to undocumented status. We heard from two agencies that are doing

amazing work educating people and preparing families: the Center for Immigrant & Refugee Advancement (CIRA) and Centro Hispano.

Here’s a few nuggets of information that might be helpful to you with this topic:

  • Choose your words wisely. Be very considerate of the language you use on this topic, especially when it comes to youth.

  • Ensure the information your agency shares are reliable and accurate. Refer to Centro Hispanos website https://www.centrohispanos.com/ or call their office for more information at 402.564.2110.

  • Centro Hispano offers Know Your Rights training/presentations for organizations and community members. Reach out to them if you’d like training or a presentation!

Our communities thrive when our children and families thrive. Thank you for being

partners as we help our families thrive!

We had our first Toddler and Technology workshop for parents in Fullerton at the library this month. Childcare was provided by HeadStart, and attendance was nice with great participation. This same workshop will be held in the month of April in Columbus, Schuyler, and Albion. Come and be blown away with all the information all parents need to know.

Our Partnering with Parents was held on January 27th  at the Columbus Library. We shared how to help children identify their emotions and ways to provide opportunities to practice how to properly address different feelings in an appropriate way.

We will be starting our Spring PIWI class in February with seven families and eight children.

This will be held at Saint Bonaventure Preschool and Childcare.

In March, we will be having three recruiting workshops for our Cohort 3 Rooted in Relationships,

that will begin in July of this year. Please contact Cheryl Drozd at 402-910-2868 or

rircoordinator@columbusunitedway.com, if you or someone you know are interested in

becoming a part of Rooted in Relationships. We are ready to spread our wings and bring on

another fifteen providers.
