Community Safety Updates
2017 Chicago Pride Parade
Save the #11 Lincoln Bus
|
Dear Neighbor,
Warm weather brings us out to enjoy all our community and city have to offer.
Summer also means we must stay alert to our surroundings, walk in well-lit public places and call 9-1-1 if anything seems suspicious or threatening.
I want to share two recent incidents highlighting the rapid response of our local police in the 43rd Ward resulting in the quick apprehension several offenders.
On Tuesday evening,
June 13, 2017, an
altercation between two men broke out at North Avenue Beach. Increased police presence on the beach reached the scene immediately and ended the incident preventing further injury. Charges have been filed.
Also on Tuesday evening, after four juveniles stole a victim's cell phone in the 1900 block of North Dayton Street, police used the iPhone tracking feature to locate the suspects at the North and Clybourn Red Line station. Officers raced to the Grand Avenue stop, arresting the four offenders on the train and seizing the BB gun used in the robbery. These youths have been linked to another robbery as well.
As we reported in our Public Safety
meetings, community awareness and close cooperation with the police are key to neighborhood safety.
Remember not to tune out walking on the street when you "plug in" your electronic devices - especially if you are alone at night. This common sense rule of city living was true when I first moved to the 43rd Ward almost 40 years ago. Back in 1979, the "distraction" of the day was a Walkman, not a cell phone, but the advice still holds true.

Save the #11 Lincoln Avenue Bus
After a pilot program to continue the #11 Lincoln Bus, the CTA is extending the test 90 days to boost ridership before deciding whether to continue the run permanently. It's an important bus route for many of our local businesses and residents and I urge you to ride the #11 this summer.
