Help Cleveland Kids Thrive

New and gently used board, picture and begin to read books are requested by the CWRU Wellness Champions in the August Cleveland Kids' Book Bank book drive going on now through August 16. We have three drop off locations, Adelbert 109, Thwing third floor lobby and Yost lobby. Just look for the book bin and help us fill it up.
Now is also the time that the SAC Community Service Committee is gathering school supplies. Learn more about the school supply drive on the SAC website.

Healthy Department Toolkit is Back
For the second year, the Wellness Program offers this more personalized wellness initiative for work groups across campus. Work with your teams on areas like positive communication and healthy eating while getting to know one another better.
Healthy Departments who complete programming in the six areas highlighted this fall will be sent window/door clings just like the one to the right to proudly display in their workplace and great team prizes like a campus lunch or seated massages for the team.

Click here for a PDF of the toolkit, or contact Mary Ann if you would like a physical copy sent.

Register your group of 5-10 people today!
Biometric Screening Schedule Open
The screening is one of THREE activities faculty and staff will need to complete to become a 2020 Wellness Participant and receive the $25 monthly incentive in 2020 paychecks. Log into the Quest Biometric Screening Scheduler to sign up. New participants should use the registration key: CWRU. Those who have participated previously should use their same username and password. (Please call Quest at 866.908.9440 if you have forgotten your username or password). Screening on campus starts the last week in September.

The Staywell HRA is also open on the Staywell site.

And the Tobacco Attestation form is open today in HCM. Go to Main Menu - Self-Service – Benefits – Tobacco Attestation Form. Make sure you are attesting for 2020. If the form says, 2019, scroll to the bottom and click the "Next Benefit Year" button. Then, be sure to SAVE your answer.
Check out our NEW Take5 Meditations
Taking five minutes or less to relax with guided meditation, may just be the wellness break you need. When we feel well, it is easier to be productive at work and to enjoy each day. Accomplishing that can sometimes be challenging when work loads are heavy and time frames are short.

The Take5 relaxation exercises should make it easier than ever to take a brief relaxation break and feel ready for the rest of the day.
Learn more and try the meditations on the Wellness website.
Building a Safer, Kinder Well-Being Campus
Dockless electric scooters are coming to Cleveland which means they will probably be arriving on campus this month. The Wellness Program reminds you to have your fellow community members in mind when driving on and near campus because there will be new users on the roads.

We asked Dawn Miller, Meditation and Yoga instructor for the Wellness Program, to share a loving kindness mantra that you can send out to others when you start to feel agitated on the road.

May you be well.
May you be safe.
May you have peace.

Consider posting this mantra on your visor or dash.

Remember that state law requires drivers give bikes and scooters at least 3 feet of safe driving distance when passing. Learn more on the Bike Cleveland site.

Help us grow kindness while keeping everyone safe by being alert for cyclists, pedestrians and these new scooter drivers.
Mental Well-being in Focus
The Wellness Program reminds faculty and staff that there are many FREE resources available for improved mental well-being. Along with offering up to five free counseling sessions, per problem area, per family member, per year, Impact Solutions has some great online solutions, like the "Resilience Journey" found on the Impact Solutions site. Log in using our member login "CWRU". and scroll down until you see the Resilience Tile (pictured right). Then follow the "Begin Your Journey" prompt. During the program you will see where you stand on the five core components of resilience, and learn how to strengthen those skills.

The Wellness Program also encourages all faculty and staff on campus to download the CWRU Reach Out App. This free app provides guidance for supporting a friend in need, suicide prevention or coping with a personal mental health challenge. It is a one stop shop for linking you to resources in the community. Just search "CWRU Reach Out" in your phone's app store to download today. Have the app handy now, so there is no delay in the event of a mental health emergency.
