June 7 is National Cancer Survivors Day

Gabby is shy but sweet, and very close to her older brother. She loves playing with dolls and drawing, and is a big fan of Robert Munsch books. She’s also living with cancer that required surgery and chemotherapy. Yet despite her battles, “Gabby is happy and healthy,” says her mom. She adore Mickey and Minnie Mouse, and wished to meet them both at Walt Disney World® Resort.

Many of our wish children face an uphill battle against cancer. Cancer is daunting, but wishes can make a big difference. “The experience allowed us to participate in a wonderful adventure as a family,” says Gabby’s mom. “We looked forward to the newness of each day and were grateful to share this together.”
Community support for wishes
For 22 years, the Make-A-Wish Golf Classic has helped grant wishes. Each June, this event is planned by a dedicated committee and supported by community sponsors. To date the event has raised more than $3.5 million for Make-A-Wish Northern Alberta. When it was clear that the 2020 event was going to be cancelled, the organizing committee approached sponsors with the news and many of them decided to move forward with donating the funds they’d planned to pledge to the event.

“Many of our sponsors and golfers have been supporting this event for a long time,” says Tournament Chairman Glenn Fisher. “They felt it was important to support the Make-A-Wish mission, even if we couldn’t hold the event.”

Thank you to the event organizers and sponsors who rallied together to support wishes during this critical time.
Rope For Hope Postponed
Because the health and safety of our participants, staff and volunteers is our top priority, we are postponing our Rope for Hope events in Edmonton and Red Deer, and rescheduling them for September 2020.

Red Deer Rope for Hope is now scheduled for September 19, 2020
Edmonton Rope for Hope is now scheduled for September 25, 2020

We will continue to monitor the situation and notify all participants if it becomes necessary to modify our event plans further.  We appreciate your support and patience as we navigate these changes. We look forward to coming together in support of life-changing wishes when it is safe to do so.
