Community Update: July 18, 2020
Liebe TCGIS-Gemeinschaft,

We hope you are having an enjoyable summer, despite the limitations this year!

Today we are sharing with you Guidelines for Families from the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) and updates from the TCGIS Parent Council.

We've had 420+ reponses to both microsurveys we've sent this summer! Vielen Dank for taking the time to share your feedback with us! We hope you'll take a few minutes to answer this week's short 3-question microsurvey.

We know it's challenging to think about the coming school year without more information. We are eager to hear MDE's decision about the new school year the week of July 27. You can expect to hear from us again that week with as many details as we can provide at that time. Thank you for your patience as we continue to work on our plans and wait for MDE's decision.

Ein schönes Wochenende wünscht

Guidelines for Families -
2020/21 School year

On July 10 MDE released new guidelines for families to help them plan for the new 2020/21 school year.

This document gives families a quick overview of the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) and Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) guidance for schools, so families know what information they should expect from their child’s school.

This is not the final decision about whether/when schools will open; that will be announced the week of July 27.

Microsurvey #3: July Update on
Learning Model Preferences

Now that we are mid-way through summer, we'd like to check in with parents again about their learning-model preferences for the coming school year. Thank you in advance for sharing your thoughts with us!

Parent Council Update: July 2020

Wondering what the Parent Council has been up to this year? Please check out our presentation to the board on June 25, where we provided a brief history of the council and updated the board on our activity this school year. Click here for the presentation.

At our July 13 meeting, the Parent Council heard updates from the school about plans for the fall. While the school waits for direction from MDE about how school will look in the fall, there are many discussions and planning sessions taking place. Once a path has been established by the state, the Parent Council will look for ways to support parents and teachers. We anticipate more discussions at our August meeting.

The school has been planning for ways to welcome new families to TCGIS through videos and family mentoring. The Parent Council wishes to thank the elementary and middle school teachers for their work on the videos.

The Parent Council will hold new elections for the 2020-21 school year after school starts, seating new members in October, but we are queuing some topics for the upcoming year. Among the issues we will address:
  • School lunches: Are there better, healthier options available that will work with the school's budget, new building, and other constraints?
  • Community building: How can PC help support parents, teachers, and the school, and help build community, especially if distance learning continues?

The Parent Council will also continue ongoing work of addressing parent concerns from this school year. If you have anything you’d like the Parent Council to address, please email your class representative, or the council at parent-council@tcgis.org .
