FIMI Project
A break developed in the subline delivering sand to the Pines last week. To avoid the dredges being down, the contractor started pumping in the Grove. The break has now been repaired and pumping will resume in the Pines by Monday, weather permitting.
To date, the Pines has received 545,000 cubic yards of sand. An additional 303,000 cubic yards remain to be pumped. The sand placement is expected to be completed by the third week in November. In the meantime, construction of the new permanent access walks will begin in two weeks, starting in the east end of the community. Planting of beach grass and the placement of sand fence will take place during the winter.
FIPPOA has been vigilant to prevent any further delay of the project, arguing to the Army Corps, the dire condition of the beach in the western end of our community, and the importance of getting this job completed.

In Memory Of...
Long time Shore Walk resident, Logan Green, died last night. Logan was born in Kentucky. He was a psychologist specializing in family therapy.
All who knew him will remember his gentleness, unique laughter and the soft Kentucky drawl that stayed with him throughout his life. Logan is survived by his long-term partner Michael Haymes.
Pines resident Gilbert Parker died peacefully at his Manhattan home on October 29th at the age of 92.
He attended Wesleyan University, graduating in 1948 as their first theater major. He received a master's degree from Fordham University in 1951.
In his 50-year career as a theatrical agent, Parker helped to bring many plays to production, starting with Candide in 1956 to The Full Monty in 2000. His clients won 12 Tony Awards and three Pulitzer Prizes.
A major influence in Parker's life was the 62 years he spent at the Pines. He remembered trips to the Pines before electricity, and how magical it was to sit around at night listening to authors read their stories by candlelight. He first ventured to the Pines in the summer of 1956 and bought his home in 1958. Parker was famous for his Fish House Punch parties. He was a Legacy board member of FIPAP.
A memorial service is planned for February. Memorial gifts may be made to The Pines Care Center, PO Box 5333, Fire Island Pines, NY 11782 or to the Gilbert Parker Endowed Scholarship Fund at Wesleyan University by contacting Marcy Herlihy at mherlihy@wesleyan.edu.
