“Am I not your mother?” What a question posed to Saint Juan Diego. When I get up with the saints, I would love to hear what he was thinking when Our Lady of Guadalupe caught him on the side road. A good principle of life is never to run away from your mother. If Juan Diego was occupied with the exigencies of his life carrying for his ailing uncle, if he was caring more of what he thought of himself as opposed to what God was calling him for, we as a church could fall into the same temptation. The way we not fall into these temtpations as a Church is stick with the Mother of God! These two first weeks of Advent have been a great time of healing (read on for testimonies of our retreat) from any burden of our lives, especially the burden of self-judgments. While our parish was on retreat, the Bishop of San Jose released the Diocesan Pastoral Plan “Renewed in Christ, Together in Mission” which focuses the whole Catholic Church of the County of Santa Clara for the next 8 years to spiritual renewal through the six priorities of worship, outreach, formation, youth and young adults, family ministry, and structural renewal. In these pages in the next several weeks, we will break down what each of these priorities might look like for our parish and diocese. In the meantime I encourage you to read the whole plan at https://www.dsj.org/about-us/pastoral-planning/. Perhaps the most poignant part of the liturgical celebration of receiving the Pastoral Plan was the Bishop and the whole representative assembly of the Diocese consecrating the whole work to Jesus through the intercession of Our Lady of Guadalupe. So I end with the words of that prayer for you and your households in this time of expectant hope: “O Mary, Immaculately Conceived, beloved spouse of our patron, Saint Joseph, look upon us, your children, as we seek your motherly presence and guidance as we, the people of the Diocese of San Jose, consecrate ourselves to you”.
Come Lord Jesus!
Our Lady of Guadalupe, pray for us! Saint Joseph, pray for us! Saint John Vianney, pray for us!
God bless,
Fr Joe

Sunday December 24 is the Fourth Sunday of Advent for 8AM, 10AM, 12PM. There will be no 6PM Mass for Sunday December 24. Because Christmas falls on a Monday, the Sunday evening Masses are for the Vigil for Christmas. The Church asks that you celebrate BOTH the Fourth Sunday of Advent AND Christmas even though it is separated by less than a day. It is a double header of grace! January 1st is not a holy day of obligation for this year of 2024. | | |

Thank you Family Advent Retreat |
Thank you to all the families who participated in the Family Advent Retreat on Saturday, December 9th. Thank you to Deacon Raul for leading us in reflection and prayer; to Jose and Martin who always work relentlessly behind-the-scenes to set-up and clean-up the facilities and refreshments; and to all the catechists wh made the day possible.
It was wonderful to see so many families spend time together sharing about their encounter with Christ in our daily lives and make family Advent wreaths together. A Blessed Advent to all!
