ST. JOHN VIANNEY PARISH
Community Update
for Sunday July 31, 2022
Over the past several months SJV has hosted Quizzer Besinio, Michael Silva, and Khoa Bui. These three have made the step in following the Lord Jesus as joyful disciples and to serve God in the Church as priests. They have worked with Catholic Charities, served our Masses, helped at the Diocesan youth retreats, prayed together, cooked together, and (tried to) climb Mount Shasta together. You may have seen them at our Masses serving, singing or selling you soccer tickets (don’t forget 8am Sat). For a young man in his 20s and 30s to leave family, career, and video games is impressive and certainly a sign of a calling of God. As these three move on (Khoa is an SJV parishioner) we pray with them. Next week the Church commemorates the patron of parish priests and our patron Saint John Vianney. Lets commit to praying for more shepherds and pastors after the heart of Jesus. Join us Friday night for a 90 minute prayer led by these three. Join here in a nine day novena to our patron for more priests. Join the priests of San Jose on the feast of Saint John Vianney, Thursday August 4, 5pm to pray for all our San Jose priests who have gone to the Lord.

Read on for details especially our parish wide celebration of Saint John Vianney which has been moved to August 20. Read on for the Universal Synod results.

St John Vianney, pray for us!

God bless,

Fr Joe

St. Vincent de Paul
St. Vincent de Paul: School Supplies and Backpacks

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul at SJV will again be collecting school supplies and backpacks to be given out to the children of the families we serve. You may bring notebooks, binder paper, color crayons, markers and other items including new backpacks during the month of July and through August 4th.

Please place the items in the wooden box in the vestibule of the church or bring them to the Parish Office. Remember the schools do not allow red or blue backpacks. We thank you for your continued support and generosity.

If you know of families in need of our help please give them our help line number 408 535-0404.
Many people who come to us at St Vincent de Paul are in dire need. Most have suffered job loss and some have medical issues that have impacted them both financially and emotionally. There are many with children, and they are struggling to provide for them. These families are often behind in rent, PG&E and water and it is not always easy to accept help when someone has never been in this situation before. They are so gracious and thankful for SVdP.

This weekend on the 30th and 31st at all the Masses, there will be a Second Collection for our St. Vincent de Paul Ministry. With the help of your support, we can continue to show these families our solidarity and love.

SJV75: The Upper House of Ministry

SJV75: The Upper Room House of Ministry
A longtime dream is coming true for our parish and school. SJV is completing a major part of our strategic 75th Anniversary Plan. Thanks to a generous donor, SJV has just completed the conversion of its former convent into apartment-bedrooms. We now have 16 single occupancy bedrooms with private bathrooms available to lease for significantly subsidized rent. The purpose of the "Upper Room" apartment-bedrooms is to provide affordable housing to young Catholic professionals who vocationally serve the Roman Catholic Diocese of San Jose. Rent includes all utilities, internet, common living areas (shared kitchen, dining room, laundry, work space, and recreational room. A contemplative garden with a Marian shrine completes the "Upper Room" community. Residents of the Upper Room are expected to live the social and moral doctrine of the Roman Catholic Church and sign an agreement to do so prior to joining the community. Residents of the "Upper Room" live intentionally in community while maintaining their autonomy as professionals. If you know of any of your teachers or staff who might be a good fit for the "Upper Room" community, please have them email our Director of Mission & Evangelization, Will Rainford, at [email protected]

We will have a memorial and blessing of all animals at our Annual Animal Blessing on Saturday, October 8, 1PM. Father Manuel may be welcoming our next SJV dog...soon.
