From the Desk of the Executive Director
Happy Friday!

As of today, all 11 regions are under Tier 3 mitigation efforts implemented by the State of IL. Please be reminded, indoor activities are canceled/closed, which includes the Prairie Lodge (PL) Charter Club Activity Rooms, the Millgrove Woodshop, Indoor Fitness Classes and Lifestyle offerings. Due to current weather conditions and mitigation requirements, the PL Indoor Pool & Locker Rooms will close for two weeks (Friday, November 20th-Friday, December 4th) and/or until further guidance is received from state officials.

The PL Indoor Walking Track (no reservation needed) and the MVL Fitness Center will remain open by reservation only. However, face masks are required while exercising. Please assess your individual tolerance for wearing a mask while exercising before continuing your regular routine. Your patience and cooperation are appreciated in advance.

Please be reminded that Jameson’s is doing curb side pick-up and offers on-line ordering! Also, this Thanksgiving, pre-orders are being taken. Jameson’s Charhouse has been a long-time business partner of the Sun City Community Association of Huntley, Inc. As we all know, hospitality and food service businesses have suffered considerable losses this year. Please consider supporting Jameson’s during this very difficult time.

Be well and stay strong,

Emotional Health:
Start a Gratitude Journal

Could you add a little gratitude to your life? Research has shown that gratitude journaling can improve optimism, determination, enthusiasms, energy and even exercise habits. Gratitude journaling can also improve the way your body physically feels, reducing the impact of physical ailments.

Gratitude journaling involves simply writing down what you are grateful for to elicit more positive thinking and hopefulness. It’s different than just journaling, because the focus is building positive pathways in your brain.

3 Tips for Gratitude Journaling:

1. Be grateful gradually. To sustain gratitude journaling practice, start small, say on a weekly or monthly basis. You are also less likely to burn out when writing weekly as opposed to daily.

2. Carve out time. Set a timer for a set amount of time, silence your phone and unplug from other activities while journaling.

3. Do what works for you. Remember that there is no right or wrong way to keep a gratitude journal. This means that if you want to take a break from writing in your gratitude journal because you are too busy or are feeling more hopeful, there is no shame in stopping and starting it up again when you feel like you need to.

Full Lipid Panel, A1C, Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA), Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) & Vitamin D Screenings
The lipid screening includes total cholesterol, HDL/LDL cholesterol, triglycerides and glucose levels (12-hour fast required). The PSA screening alone is not conclusive and should be used in conjunction with a complete physical exam. The vitamin D screening detects deficient vitamin D levels, which can lead to weakened bones. The A1C screening measures how well your diabetes is controlled over an approximately 6 to 12 week time period. TSH regulates the thyroid gland. Thyroid hormones influence virtually every organ system in the body. Results of these tests should be shared with your physician. Fasting is not required for the vitamin D, PSA, TSH or A1C screenings. The fee is $28 each for lipid, PSA and A1C, $25 for TSH and $35 for Vitamin D. Appointments required. To register for this screening and pay with a Credit/Debit card via phone, call 630-933-2374.
