COMMUNITY UPDATES
From the Desk of the Executive Director
Happy Tuesday!!

After the transition from developer control to resident control in 2007, many of the annuals flower beds were converted to perennials in efforts to reduce the overall cost of landscaping and its effect on assessments. During this transition, thousands of daylilies were planted in our common area planting beds. In 2014, a plan was implemented to reduce the number of daylilies and replace them with different perennials to add pops of color during the spring, summer and fall. Management works with our landscape services provider, Landscape Concepts Management, to effectively maintain and improve the existing plant materials throughout the Community where and whenever possible. In 2020, the landscaping, irrigation and snow removal budget line items were approximately $1,030,000 collectively, which includes a small allocation for plant replacement/improvements.

While efforts to minimize the daylily monotony continues, and our area experiences seasonal extremes resulting in additional needs for replacements, the magnitude of the common area landscape will allow room for improvement for quite a while. In my opinion, this community continues to be the most beautifully landscaped Active Adult Community in the Midwest.

Vote By Mail. Request Your Ballot Today.
You can apply for a VOTE BY MAIL BALLOT for the November 3 General Election now!

Kane County:
Voters can now apply online for a vote-by-mail ballot for the Nov. 3 General Election.
“Avoid lines and crowds on Election Day and vote safely and conveniently from home,” Clerk’s Office officials say in the tweet. The expanded vote-by-mail legislation is in response to health-safety concerns related to the COVID-19 pandemic, state officials said. Please click here to apply online: https://www.kanecountyclerk.org/Elections/Pages/Vote-by-Mail.aspx

McHenry County:
Due to COVID-19, all 2020 General Election voters are encouraged to cast a ballot prior to Election Day, either by mail or during early voting. Voting by mail is an easy option for voters and you can request a vote by mail ballot through email, mail, or in person. An application is available from your local election authority or at https://elections.il.gov/electionoperations/VotingByMail.aspx. To register to vote or check your registration status, visit https://ova.elections.il.gov.
For those who prefer to cast their ballot in person, early voting will be available from October 26-29 in the Social Lounge at Prairie Lodge. Most residents of Kane County can vote in-person on election day in Drendel Ballroom. Management has confirmed with the county election bureau that their staff will provide social distancing and sanitization at all polling places.
Community Walking Path
The "Yellow & Green" portions of the community walking path will be demolished & replaced starting Monday August 3, weather permitting.

These portions of the trail will be closed to all bicycle & foot traffic for a minimum of one week. Residents will need to adjust their routines during this period. We appreciate your patience as we continue to improve this valuable community amenity.

Tree Pruning
Please take some time during this growing season to evaluate the trees on your property. Trees should be spot-pruned during the growing season to promote shaping, thinning and to remove branches that interfere with nearby improvements or pedestrian traffic. Village of Huntley guidelines state that parkway trees should be pruned to maintain adequate vertical roadway and sidewalk clearances (10 feet above sidewalk; 15 feet above street pavement).
