The Monthly Dollars for Deacons Offerings...

... go to support the work of the Deacons. As you know, the Deacon's work is to support our members' various needs as they may arise. Donation envelopes are at the door this Sunday for the large-print version and are inserted in the smaller-print bulletins.

Thank You from Cochiti School

The above photos taken this past week show the appearance of Cochiti Elementary-Middle School, where the school supplies you donated went. There are 200 students K-8 enrolled in the 2025-26 school year.

Genevive, Assistant Principal, has told our RRPC, "Your continued support means the world to us. We're so incredibly grateful for your generosity and all that you do for our students."

Whether you have put a notebook or a water bottle in the hands of a Cochiti student, your contribution has helped to improve our New Mexico educational system. The Mission Committee thanks you so very much.

Pastor-to-People

Christians are called to be the "light of the world," and the "salt of the earth." Remember that Jesus said that even as the Roman Empire ruled over most of the Mediterranean world. In fact, Israel then was an occupied territory of Rome, with something of a puppet government headed by the Herod family. Yet, Jesus still called his followers to "let your light so shine that others may give glory to God".

So here we are in the 21st Century in the United States of America. What does Jesus' calling ask of us now? That's what we will be exploring in the next two Adult CE opportunities August 17 and 31. This coming Sunday I will be joined by one of the best students I have ever had at UNM. His name is John San Nicolas, who specializes in what he calls on his blog site "Faithful Politics." What does a faithful Christian do in our democratic society, where we elect our own representatives to govern us? We live in a

far different world than Jesus and Paul faced. Are there some different obligations we have as opposed to the First Century? I will be introducing A Social Creed for the 21st Century (please scroll to page 8) passed by the General Assembly in 2008. I will try to explain how the General Assembly makes pronouncements about all sorts of social issues and what that means for us. I will also be introducing a book by Jim Wallis called God's Politics.

So I invite you to come this Sunday and think together about what it means for us in our times to be the "light of the world" and "salt of the earth."

Blessings,

Frank

Worship Committee Corner

We would love to invite members to join our committee to help us continue to create worship experiences that give glory to God and enhance the spiritual growth of our members! The committee oversees all aspects of worship and care of the sanctuary. We are especially in need of someone willing to act as secretary to keep an institutional record of our planning meetings.
