VRFSC Newsletter September 2025

Have you had a Home Hardening Assessment done on your home?

The largest factor determining a building's ability to withstand a wildfire is how well a home's 5 foot of perimeter (called Zone 0) resists embers.* A fire-hardened home is a home that’s taken smart steps ahead of time to prepare for wildfires and ember storms. Simply sign up today and one of our Wildfire Safety Staff will visit your home to assess and provide recommendations for hardening your home through a personalized online interactive report. All report results are private, and the report is simply meant as an educational tool to help provide a starting point for residents on how to lower their risk.

Was your Home Assessment over 2 years ago?

Make a new appointment!

Plants grow, screens get rusty, gutters are filled, nests have yielded baby birds... So many things can happen in 2 years, let our assessors give you a fresh jump start on Home Hardening and Defensible Space!

*If you have had an assessment within the last 2 years, you are not yet eligible for a new appointment.

An important reminder!

Why is this so important?

Goldspotted Oak Borers have arrived to Ventura County. "Goldspotted Oak Borer (GSOB) Agrilus auroguttatus is an invasive pest contributing to the on-going oak tree mortality occurring on federal, state, private, and local Native American lands in many areas of San Diego County... Widespread oak mortality can have severe implications to the environment and human safety" (UCANR, Cooperative Extension Ventura County). Oaks are at risk! What can you do about it? GSOB spreads from place to place through the transportation of firewood. Keep our oaks safe and buy firewood where you burn it!
