CEO Anoosheh Oskouian and COO Anu Vij attended the Composites and Advanced Materials Expo, CAMX 2022, in Anaheim, CA from October 17th to October 20th, where they met with representatives from various industries and offered the latest solutions for meeting volatile organic compound (VOC) abatement challenges, as well as guidance for meeting increasingly stringent EPA guidelines.

Flare Selection for the Chemical Process Industries

The proper selection of flare equipment has the potential to result in optimized capital and operational costs while maintaining compliance with stringent environmental requirements. The improper application of a flare technology can lead not only to poor performance but to negative environmental impacts as well. 


A Flare for Volatile Organic Compound (VOC) Control

There are essentially two types of flares which can be used for VOC control: an elevated, open-flame (known as a candlestick flare), and an enclosed flare.

To measure the factors affecting air quality, the U.S. EPA calculates a daily air quality index, known as the AQI, that’s presented on a scale of zero to 500. To calculate accurate AQI that is specifically representative to California’s cities and rural communities, distributed sensor networks are put into place to gather data.

Port of Long Beach's GHG Emissions Up

The unusual increase in the number of oceangoing vessels staying at anchor off the coast of the San Pedro Bay port complex last year resulted in 22% higher greenhouse gas emissions since 2005. The supply chain congestion has seen over a hundred vessels, mainly containerships, sitting at anchor or loitered due to cargo surges at the peak of the supply chain disruption, causing a rise in emissions in the bay.
