Paws, Paints, and Kids

Registration is now open for “Paws & Paintbrushes with Project HumaneKind,” starting Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at the Saratoga Recreation Youth Center! This six-session program for kids aged 8–12 combines art and animal advocacy, allowing young artists to meet shelter animals and create beautiful paintings or sculptures inspired by their furry friends. With guidance from talented art teachers Vandana Pawar and Zohreh Safdari, participants will learn the value of compassion and empathy for animals through creative expression. Don’t wait—secure your spot today! Register here.

PHK Comes To The Rescue

In December, in partnership with Peninsula CatWorks, we provided emergency veterinary care for eight cats, including Pedro, suffering some laceration wounds, and helped Tippy, a neglected senior dog with severe tumors, find safety and love. These critical efforts totaled $2,894—made possible by your generosity.

ï»żThe emergency veterinary funds, contributed by a generous donor, provided a stopgap for animal rescuers while other sources of help ran dry at year’s end. Additionally, our board donated to the Animal Wellness Foundation to aid animals impacted by the devastating Los Angeles fires. Rescue expenses are a heavy burden on Good Samaritans!

Your continued support powers every step toward a more compassionate world. Thank you for making a difference!

Farewell, Perry - A Very Special Palo Alto Donkey

Memorial Service Sunday, February 2, 2:00 p.m. at Bol Park

Perry, a donkey who spent many of his thirty years at Bol Park in Palo Alto, has died. Children and adults alike had the pleasure of getting to know Perry during his weekly Sunday outings at the park. The community embraced this special donkey and his gentle presence.

ï»ż

Perry came to fame as the model for Donkey in the animated Shrek movies, a wildly successful franchise. Perry has been featured in the New Yorker magazine and the New York Times.

Though he was paid a small bit for his modeling work for the movies, he has been unacknowledged officially on screen, and Stanford students have attempted to get the movie makers to provide a screen credit. Come on, DreamWorks—pony up! In the meantime, Perry may be blissfully grazing a heavenly fare, sharing a pasture with his other departed equine friends somewhere in the sky.
