FACULTY/STAFF NOTES
* Sagar Samtani  continues his dive into the dark web, and now is collaborating with researchers from the University of Arizona to find ways to protect scientific instruments and research from being hacked by dark web denizens. The work is being funded through a highly competitive National Science Foundation grant. Samtani received a CISE Research Initiation Initiative NSF grant this spring -- the first such grant given to a business college researcher in the state of Florida.
 
* Bill Burnham,  an accounting and business-planning consultant with the Florida Small Business Development Center at USF, was the recipient of the Performance 
Excellence of the Year Award at the 2019 Business Awards Celebration Luncheon hosted by the center last month.

* Seckin Ozkul has had three papers published this year in highly regarded journals. "The Mediating Effect of Green Innovation on the Relationship Between Green Supply Chain Management and Environmental Performance," co-authored by associate marketing Professor Rob Hooker, was published in the Journal of Industrial Engineering and Environment Science; "An Optimization Model for Investment in Technology and Government Regulation" was published in the Journal of Computer Networks and Communication; and "Identifying Fatality Risk Factors for the Commercial Vehicle Driver Population" was published in the Journal of Engineering.

* Kyle King, a hospitality, management and marketing consultant with the Florida Small Business Development Center at USF, received the Rising Star of the Year award at the 2019 Business Awards Celebration Luncheon hosted by the center in May. Last year, King received the Valor Award for his work after Hurricane Irma struck Florida in 2017.

* David Ortinau, professor emeritus in Marketing Department, recently co-authored "I'll Have the Usual: How Restaurant Brand Image, Loyalty and Satisfaction Keep Customers Coming Back" in the Journal of Product and Brand Management. Ortinau also co-authored a chapter titled "Service Engagement in the Marketing Discipline: The Life and Legacy of Joseph F. Hair Jr." in the book, The Great Facilitator, Reflections on the Contributions of Joseph F. Hair Jr., to Marketing and Business Research.

* Stacey Dadd, marketing and communications officer with the Florida Small Business Development Center at USF, was named Ambassador of the Year at the 2019 Business Awards Celebration Luncheon, hosted by the center, last month.

* Dipayan Biswas recently published research examining perceptions of food taste when consumers stand versus when they are seated. The article titled "Extending the Boundaries of Sensory Marketing and Examining the Sixth Sensory System: Effects of Vestibular Sensations for Sitting versus Standing Postures on Food Taste Perception," was co-written by Courtney Szocs, assistant professor of marketing at Louisiana State University and Annika Abell, a PhD student at USF, who will assume an assistant professorship at the University of Tennessee in the fall. The research was published in the  Journal of Consumer Research , a premier research publication.

* Kassie Moeller ('19, MBA, MS in Sport and Entertainment Management) has taken a marketing coordinator position with the Stockton Kings of the NBA G League. The team is owned by the NBA's Sacramento Kings.

* Eileen Sarris ('93, MAcc) received the Leadership Sarasota Dedication Award from the Greater Sarasota Chamber of Commerce at the 2019 Celebrate Outstanding Leadership Luncheon last month. She is the chief financial officer at The Field Club.

* Katie Kicklighter ('19, MBA, MS in Sport and Entertainment Management) is now manager of hospitality and events with the Tampa Bay Super Bowl LV Host Committee. Tampa will host the Super Bowl on Feb. 7, 2021.

* John Merrill ( '94, Economics) has been promoted to chief financial officer at Park City Group's subsidiary ReposiTrak, a supply chain, compliance and business-to-business e-commerce platform. He had served as the company's senior vice president of finance and CFO and is a managing member of 360 Touch Advertising.

* Miranda Mauro ('19, MBA, MS in Sport and Entertainment Management) has taken a job as marketing coordinator with Minor League Baseball.

* Cassandra Sanchez ('14, Finance, Accounting) has accepted a new position as associate fund controller at GP Fund Solutions. A previous 25 Under 25 honoree, Sanchez previously was with LeverPoint Management.

* Marvin Oliva ('19, MBA, MS in Sport and Entertainment Management) now is the email marketing coordinator with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.  


* Sept. 19, 8:30-10 a.m., the Muma College of Business Conversation with a CEO  featuring Steve Presley, chairman and CEO of Nestlé USA, will take place at the Center for Advanced Medical Learning Simulation, 124 S. Franklin St., in downtown Tampa. Presley is a USF alumnus who earned a bachelor's degree in accounting and finance. To register, click here.

* Oct. 11, beginning at 5 p.m., the Muma College of Business Homecoming Parade Watch Party takes place in the atrium and in the breezeway with free eats and giveaways topped off with a front row seat to watch the annual Running of the Bulls Homecoming Parade, which begins at 7 p.m.

* Nov. 5-8, the Florida Small Business Development Center at USF will host its 43rd USF Basic Economic Development Course, which will allow registrants who successfully complete the program to sit for the Certified Economic Developer examination. All classes will be held at the USF Embassy Suites, 3705 Spectrum Blvd., on the Tampa campus. For more information, click here.

* Nov. 5-6, NASA's Destination Station visits Tampa and will land at the Muma College of Business over two days. Watch for details.
