FACULTY/STAFF NOTES
Lin Jiang's research, about to be published in the  Academy of Man agement Journal, d iscusses when and how entrepreneurs should display emotion when making pitches for funding. The paper, titled "Can Joy Buy You Money? The Impact of the Strength, Duration and Phases of an Entrepreneur's Peak Displayed Joy on Funding Performance," was co-written by Dezhi Yin, assistant professor in the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department, and Dong Liu, associate professor at Georgia Tech. * Diana Hechavarria was recently promoted to associate professor of entrepreneurship. She teaches social and global entrepreneurship, strategic and technical entrepreneurship and business planning and recently received the USF Women in Leadership and Philanthropy Dr. Kathleen Moore Faculty Excellence Award. Hechavarria also was recently named the recipient of the Muma College of Business Faculty Community Engagement Award.

* Jung Chul Park was promoted this semester to associate professor of finance. He teaches graduate courses in theory of finance and advanced financial management and has developed International Finance as a global citizens' course for undergraduates.

* Erin Smith, development specialist, was the recipient of the Muma College of Business Staff Community Engagement Award. She has been involved in the organization and implementation of events for Voices for Children of Tampa Bay and the Hillsborough County Guardian ad Litem program. She also serves on the college's Staff Council.

* Kaushik Dutta is now a full professor in the Information Systems and Decision Sciences Department. With more than two decades of professional and research experience, Dutta teaches courses in big data and e-commerce and has a long list of articles published in highly respected journals.


ALUMNI NOTES

* Christopher Balaban ('95, Finance) was named vice president of finance at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Sacramento at Fire Mountain, which is scheduled to open in the fall. Balaban has more than 20 years' experience in the gaming industry and most recently served as vice president of finance with Affinity Gaming and Penn National Gaming in Las Vegas.

* Bruce Himelstein ('16, Executive MBA) has been appointed chief medical officer for MVP Health Care in upstate New York. He will shape the company's medical management strategies through the implementation of polices and programs. He is a graduate of Harvard University and received his medical degree from New York University.

* Marcus Wingate (19, MBA, MS in Sport and Entertainment Management) has taken a position as associate manager of brand projects at Wasserman.

* Joe Kwo ('10, MBA) is now the chief information and technology officer at Bisk Education, where he will lead multiple aspects of Bisk's technology services and infrastructure. He previously was executive vice president and chief information officer at Fintech. Kwo also serves on the Muma College of Business Information Systems and Decision Sciences Advisory Board.

* Rex Wasserbach (19, MBA, MS in Sport and Entertainment Management) is now a business development specialist with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

* Zach Otto ('19, Marketing) has taken a job as sales executive at the Horton Group in Chicago. He will work on commercial property and casualty insurance sales as an outside sales representative.  

* Crystal Ortiz ('19, MBA, MS in Sport and Entertainment Management) has been hired as an account executive over membership sales and service with the Tampa Bay Lightning.

* Maddy Cooper, ('19, MBA, MS in Sport and Entertainment Management) has taken a job as a partnership sales specialist with the San Francisco 49ers.

* Brittany Green ('19, MBA, MS in Sport and Entertainment Management) is now a coordinator in corporate partnership sales with the Miami Heat.

*Jessica Preble ('17, MBA) was promoted to controller/HR manager at Sutter Roofing Company. She previously was the accounting manager with the same company.


* May 16-17, the Accounting Circle CPE Conference, hosted by the Lynn Pippenger School of Accountancy, will take place in the USF Marshall Student Center. The conference gives more as many as 500 alumni and professional partners hands-on continuing professional education that qualifies for CPE credits. The proceeds pay for student scholarships. * Sept. 19, 8:30-10 a.m., the Muma College of Business Conversation with a CEO  featuring Steve Presley, chairman and CEO of NestlĂ© USA will take place at the Center for Advanced Medical Learning Simulation, 124 S. Franklin St., in downtown Tampa. Presley is a USF alumnus who earned a bachelor's degree in accounting and finance. Watch for registration details.

* Oct. 10, 8:30-10 a.m., the Muma College of Business Conversation with a CEO with Rich Hume, chief executive officer with Tech Data, will take place at the Center for Advanced Medical Learning Simulation, 124 S. Franklin St., in downtown Tampa. Watch for registration details.
