Mayor Sylvester Turner Announces Houston's Living With Water Report

Houstonians know that the abundance of rainwater has continuously challenged our city and has exacerbated housing, mobility, and economic resilience challenges, among others. Now, more than ever, it is the time to transform and build forward to not only protect communities at risk, but also improve quality of life for all Houstonians.

Solar Farm and Solar Boulevard Naming in Sunnyside
The Sunnyside Energy Trust hosted a successful project kick-off and awareness event to engage and educate the community on their plans to convert the 240 acre Sunnyside landfill to a 70 megawatt solar farm. During the February 1 event, Incinerator Road was renamed to to Solar Boulevard.

Among the 85 attendees were honorary Sunnyside Mayor Sandra Hines, District D councilwoman Dr. Carolyn Evans-Shabazz, South Union CDC president Efrem Jernigan, Wolfe Energy president Dori Wolfe, and Complete Communities Neighborhood Support Team (NST) members.

Constellation Community Champions Grant

Through the Constellation Community Champions program, current Constellation customers like you can apply for grants up to $500 in support of community-based projects or initiatives that focus on education, youth or the environment.

Grant applications are accepted throughout the year and will be awarded in three annual grant cycles.

Second Chance Job Fair:  State Representative Jarvis Johnson held a Second Chance Job Fair for individuals who are unemployed, underemployed, or who have made mistakes in the past, including nonviolent ex-felons, to better their lives through gainful employment. The Second Chance Job Fair was held on Friday, February 21, from 9 am to 1 pm at the Acres Homes Workforce Solutions Center at 6730 Antoine Dr.
Alief - Westwood
Census Town Hall: A town hall meeting about saying YES! To Census 2020 was held. Partners included Houston Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Harris County, Houston Area Urban League, Mi Familia, Alpha Kappa Alpha, International Management District, Westchase Management District, Alief AARP, Alief ISD Family and Engagement, Super Neighborhood 25, and Super Neighborhood 17. All were on hand to offer information regarding the census and answer questions. Spanish and Vietnamese translators were also in attendance. Flood Resiliency Workshops: A Complete Communities workshop in Kashmere Gardens focused on flooding and community resilience was held on January 14, 2020.
